Problem with garage door openers

I have two Genie garage door openers. I don't get to use my side, but the wife uses daily. She noticed yesterday her controller would not close the door, only open it. The wall control will close the door but only if you hold the button till the door is all the way closed. Turns out my door is doing the same thing. The first thing I checked was the little safety lights. Green side is working, but the red side is not. I'm guessing it may be the wires. These are about 10 years old, and no problems until now, and it is with both doors. Any suggestions? Thanks, JC

I have a friend that has the same brand operner & did about the same thing. We worked on it all day last sat.& never got it to work right. He didn't have a owners manual. So he just went & bought a new operner. I think there may be an 800 # on the operner to call for tech support. But he just got tired of fooling with it

I bought 2 new Genies a couple of months ago. Installed one and it worked OK except for the remotes. You essentially had to get out of the car and stand by the door to open/close the door. Took it back down, returned both to Lowes and went to Sears and bought 2 new ones. I now can open the door from literally 1/4 mile away - way before I ever turn onto our road. No more Genies for me.

I had the same problem with my remote, then I turned it around and it worked better. Opens far enough away I don't have to stop and wait on it. JC

I hot-wired mine. I taped the 2 sensors together so they beam would make the necessary circuit. Then I figured out how the wires needed to be connected to make it all work. It has been working fine that way for 10 years.

The guy that just replaced my garage door was surprised that my door was working with-out holding the button down. He said that the sensors cause a lot of issues. Liked the way that I fixed the problem.
