Tractor
Massey Ferguson 1552 Cab Model
In an effort to take advantage of AGCO's 0% financing and hoping to upgrade to a larger tractor I decided to visit my local Massey Dealer. My wife and I took a day off from work (Monday, 7/28) to talk with him. I speced out what I was looking for:
1552, cab model, rear hydraulics, Dyna QPS transmission, and ag tires. Front end loader with the 72 HD bucket with skid steer type quick release. I also included a model 1580 backhoe for it as well.
This was the dealer that I had bought my 1433v from and I proceeded to tell him all the details of it for trading purposes. He knows my tractor is well cared-for but of course he wanted to see it in person as well. He told me he would contact me later in the week.
I also contacted another dealer in CT via their on-line form with the same request for quote and info on my trade including photos.
Well, it's been 2 weeks now and neither one has contacted me! We are talking about approx. $40K +/- tractor and they won't even get back to me? I have a good mind to write a letter to AGCO but I doubt it would do any good...

Well, there is a NH dealer as well as a Kubota dealer two towns away and a Mahindra dealer in the same town as my Massey dealer...maybe it's time to visit them?

A phone call to AGCO will open eyes. We had some problems with our dealer on our 1523 purchase, a phone call to AGCO requesting help is all it took. We are now satisfied, but that dealer wilL NEVER see a penny of our money EVER again. We will use another dealer.

You can either ask for the PR lady, or the Territory rep.

Don't be afraid to give th dealers names. With the economy the way it is, AGCO will want you money for sure.

Good luck, and keep us posted.

Will

I ended up with my Kubota partly because the local Deere dealer never followed up with the quote he promised me. I can't imagine having so much business that one could simply let ready buyers buy elsewhere for lack of follow-up but I guess that is how it is for some of them.

As for Massey, the dealer just wasn't close enough to me to make it a viable choice.

I'd call Massey. The dealer may not care if they lost your business but Massey will care if you're headed to another brand as a result.

Is the CT dealer "Big Boy's Toys" in Pomfret?

If so, they are good people, I bought my 1540 off them last fall and would recommend them to anyone.

My Massey dealer has been good, they have one of their dealers on here as a member. My dealer is in Northwood, NH,but they have other locations. I traded up to a machine in stock, traded in a machine that had more hours then comparable models in their used stock. Is the machine you want available or have to be ordered ,along with the accessories? I hope you have better luck with other dealers. plowking

Dmf, This is all posturing.
They are not contacting you because that would put them in the "downer" position.
They want you to come crawling and begging them.
"Oh, we're sorry. we just can't give you much on that trade. And Agco just raised prices, and......."
Guess what? You are the boss, as it is your name that signs the check.
Put your steel toed cowboy boots on, take 20 steps back and give them a running kick to the groin, next time you call them.
"O.K. its been two friggin weeks; Do you want my business or not?"
Thats another reason that I dont like their fake 0% interest offer. It is just another set-up for a skrewin.
By the way, I recieved an additional $750.00 discount for cash. So much for "free" money
Start over, and let them know that you are serious and mean business. Any
Goofyness, just turn your back and walk.
This is how I ended up with my tractor. I really was turned off at the JD salesmen. So, they lost a sale, and I am VERY HAPPY WITH MY NEW MF 1540!
:D

Not that it is any consolation but I was in the reverse situation and Massey won my business.

Kubota - no models in stock, no prediction of when, and they weren't interested in locating one for me. Indicated that I would be interested in purchasing ASAP if they could locate one - never a call . . .

JD - average follow through, horrible pricing (we even have an affinity program discount but not on MY model). When they lost the sale, they wanted to know if price would have made a differenece but that was too late . . .

Massey - great follow-thru. Call-backs were friendly but not high pressure. Always called back to answer questions. (Only fault was they were not very good at selling against the competition - I asked them to convince me why I should buy Red and he had to "research it and call me back". I knew the answers from much reading here at TBN but I wanted to see what he would tell me. He did call back but it was a fairly weak arguement.) Service sold me totally. Family business just down the road and always willing to talk.

Harry - nice work on the cash deal. My dealer was having none of it - even when I walked to go buy Orange (see above on why I own Red). His prices were his prices and losing business to a competitor wasn't going to change them.

Sounds like earlier this year. I'm ready to upgrade my 2005 Silverado, so I go to the store where I usually deal, talk to "my guy" who seems distracted and too busy to bother and proceeds to give the the run around with the numbers for about 3 weeks. Last time we talked, I tell him he's still to high and he's going to get back to me no later than Saturday.

No call by Monday, so I go to one of the local GMC stores. They don't have exactly what I want so we do a Vehicle Locate Search and find two. Head over to the Sales Managers office and to shorten the story, I say "I'll give you $XXX - you give me the truck" Sales Manager fiddles with computer for about 30 seconds says"OK" Aside from wondering if I should have gone a bit lower, the deal is done in less than 2 hours.

"My Guy" phones me up about 6 weeks later - "Think I've got something of interest for you" Drove over to show him my new Sierra and have a little chat regarding customer relations.

Neeless to say, a couple of months later when time to upgrade DW's car - I had his full attention.

Yup, it was Big Boy's Toys...no reply. The other dealer is Devon Lane in Belchertown; no reply from them either...

Mine was a very similar story. Most of my neighbors have orange tractors, so I went to the Kubota dealer (who also sells JD) and got a salesman who clearly couldn't have cared less about my business. Maybe it was the fact that my son and I rode there on a motorcycle (Harley Electra Glide), but whatever the reason, it was not a good experience. This is also the same dealer where I bought my last tractor (JD 755) granted, that was ~ 20 years ago.

I talked with one of my Kubota owning friends who convinced me to go back and give them another chance with a different salesman, so I did. The second guy was nice enough, but he was the big tractor sales guy and really did not know much about the smaller tractors (I was looking at a BX 24 or the JD 2305).

So I left pretty discouraged and came back to TBN to do a lot more reading. That's when I learned about the GC2310, which had not even been on my radar screen up until that point.

I made a couple of calls and found two very friendly Massey dealers. I went to the one closest to me (only 35 miles away - the other is about 55 miles away), had a great conversation with a helpful salesman, and we closed the deal. It was delivered 3 days later and I have congratulated myself on many occasions because this has been the perfect tractor for us.

There was another Massey dealer who is < 20 miles from here, but they had very little information, nothing in stock, quoted outrageous prices, and I came away wondering why they even bother to call themselves a Massey dealer.

As for the 0% vs cash, every dealer I talked with said that they get their money so quickly that there was little incentive for them to offer much of a discount. About the best they would do was a few hundred bucks. For that minimal savings, I went with the 0% deal.

Sorry to be so long-winded, but I really like my 2310, and have enjoyed the contacts I've had with the parts & service folks at the dealership. Plus, it's raining like crazy outside so instead of using my tractor, I'm sitting here with coffee nearby just surfing and reading.....
