Power & Utility Questions

/ Power & Utility Questions #31
Heat pump with propane backup will give you central air in the summer and inexpensive heat in fairly mild weather. 1000 gallon propane tank with a generator will keep you warm during outages, if your generator is big enough to run the heat pump. The bigger tank is more reliable in cold weather, since getting the propane to boil below zero can be a problem. You can get a transfer switch that fits under your electric meter, and can mount the generator near the meter base.

Pellet stoves are a nice solid fuel backup, but also need electricity, though not much, to run. Wood stoves are good if you have your own wood, otherwise not so much.
