I'm having electric installed on a former Amish home. The electric will split at a transformer on a pole and 200A service will go to each the house and barn which are about 150' apart. Fiber internet will run to the house. I need wifi at the barn and I'm wondering what my option are. Since there is currently no plans to dig a trench directly from the house to barn, I'm wondering if there are other options. I'm seeing devices that are outdoor WiFi extenders/repeaters which talk about up to 300meters. Does anyone have any experience with devices like these? The barn is a block wall.

I use a similar wifi antenna to get wifi in my barn. They work quite well as long as there isn't a lot of blockage between the units.

I just installed that same WiFi access point you linked. I mounted it on the barn wall, 700' from the house and used this WiFi bridge to link it to the house:

Works well and was easy to set up.

I have been using an eero mesh network. Covers at least 150 feet from one node to another. Of interest is I have signal in a concrete metal lath building we just finished renovating. Keeps everything on one network.

Thank you for the information. Good to know I've got two solid options without digging more trenches through the driveway.

Buried cable is faster and more reliable...unless you forget and dig it up.

My barn is only 15' from my house, so it was easy to run.

The barn gets the signal from Starlink and their wifi router serves the barn. Then I run a Cat 6 cable (intended for buried use) to the house. The house is wired, so I have a box that feeds those jacks and one that feeds a wifi router for the house.

It works slick and is fast.

Yes, cable is great, if you can swing it. Ethernet has a maximum of 100m (Cat5), or 55m (Cat6), but not everybody is so lucky. Fiber is measured in miles/kilometers.

All the best, Peter

I get internet via Hughes Net. No hard wire nor fiber optics. AND my TV is via Dish. Both are satellite service. I feel very fortunate to have electricity via our local Co-Op.

I'm just old school. When I leave the house the cell phone my son bought me stays at home.
