Pole Barn??

We are building a small pole barn for hay and horses.

I want to insulate it. The barn is going to be sheeted with OSB and then vinyl siding.

Should we put foam boards on before or after I sheet it?

I would sheet it first then put your foam boards in.

Do you mean between the OSB and the vinyl siding or on the inside of the OSB?

On a pole barn, I'm not sure I would want foam between the structure and siding. I think I would want the connection between the poles, girts and the siding to have minimum compressibility to maximize rigidity and minimize the potential for the screws to loosen up. On mine I put housewrap over the girts and filled in between the poles inside the girts with foam (and finished with a plastic vapor barrier inside the poles).

Why are you using foam for the walls? Best value for your money is going to be regular fiberglass wall insulation.

If you really want to pay for foam sheets, it would go on over your OSB.

Compare the R value of the foam to either R13 or R19 for the fiberglass

I really don't want to finish the inside for hay storage, but I may have too.

I my Father in law had two buildings one was insulated and the other was not and it was unbearable in the non-insulated one.

Besides hay there will be horses and tack.

I think OSB, I think mold magnet. Why not use tin on the side walls? At least for the roof, I would lay foil sided bubble wrap over the purlins.

This is an addition on a current building and it needs to match.
