planning a WV Pole Building

I have got the approval from my wife to start exploring the costs of a pole building for my equipment, I am looking at a building size of around 30x40x10 with a concrete floor.

My excavating will is is in the ballparkbe free because my buddy owns an excavation business and he already told me there will be no charge for excavation and he will donate his time and crew to help with the concrete.

I am going to be going to my local lumber yards (84 Lumber and carter Lumber) to get quotes.

I also found this site: DIY Pole Barns - Pole Barn Kits, Pole Buildings, Packages, Builders, Prices, Plans , they seem to have excellent prices and they have FREE delivery there price for a 30x40x10 building deliverd is $6018.00.

if any of you have any ideas on cost for a building this size that you built please let me know if that is a good deal

That size for $6K is probably pretty good. Also check out APM Pole Building, Garage Kits
they are probably in your delivery range.

I'm sure you will get suggestions to go higher than 10'.

If you get one of their buildings are you going to put it up yourself or have them do it? The footer that they mentioned in their web site does that mean a complete perimeter footer or just concrete around the posts? That seems like a reasonable price even with the building built by their builders doing the building of it. Do keep us updated on your decision, and thanks in advance.

You should be able to get FREE building plans from your agriculture service if you build a pole barn.

I did forget to mention that I will be erecting the building with the help of friends to save $$, I also thought of going higher than 10' but im not sure that I can justify the costs, for the extra money I would have in the height I could put that towards another project, I look at it like this some will say go for 12' its only a lil more then it will be go 14' then before I know it I will be $15K into it. I would like to have a larger building but beggers cant be choosers

I am also going to look into purchasing materials as I go, I know that trusses go on sale locally sometimes, as well as a friend of mine sells steel siding, Ill just have to collect the prices and go from there

The APM site I posted will provide the drawings for you, detailed construction drawings. Check their web site for details. They will customize the building however you want. You don't need to buy their doors, you can just spec Rough Openings, and put in your own doors. I priced material first, then bought from APM. If you can get some good sales, maybe you can beat the price, but I couldn't buying stuff at normal prices.
My 30x48x12' barn "kit" was around $10K, but that included 1' overhangs all sides, so they added soffits, etc, and wainscoat bottom so there was additional channel involved. I also added 2 windows. I provided my own 3 commercial garage doors, not included in that cost. The kit included all the lumber, poles, trusses, siding, trim, bag concrete for footers, mandoor, gutters, downspouts, screws, nails, hurricane clips, fascia,.... The only thing I added was more concrete for larger footers, some additional 2x4s for construction bracing, and I provided the garage doors. county also required me to bolt the headers, the bolts were not included as not all areas require this. My price was before the economy tanked, so maybe they are lower now.

If you are looking for extra height at a lower cost look into scissor trusses. They are a few dollars more a truss but cheaper than going higher on the walls. It will give you a cathedral style ceiling.

In 1998 I had Timberline Pole Buildings, Martinsburg, WV, furnish and erect a 24x40x10 building with two overheads and one man door, 1/2 inch R-Max insulation on roof for $8800. I couldn't be more satisfied. I realize the price will have increased considerably and you are working on a budget however erecting a pole barn is rather dangerous. especially setting the trusses. Timberline sent in an Amish crew out of PA and the building was completed in three days. I hung 1/2 " foam board insulation on the complete interior, including the bottom of the trusses and heat the building with an electric furnace salvaged from a wrecked new mobile home. Good luck, you will enjoy the building when complete.

My only recomendation would be to design everything and come up with your own material list and then price it through every lumber yard/box store near you.

I have found that the kits usually arent that great of a deal by the time you "modify" it to be exactally what you want. Like overhead doors vs sliders, upsize on the post size, etc. And like you said, local trusses and metal siding may be cheaper than what you can get included in a kit as well.

Thank you for the suggestion I didnt even give scissor trusses a thought, I will price them as well.
