Placement of doors in 40x60x14 workshop

Mine is not that big, only 30x40x16. Has a lean-to 20x8, at the shoulder. 8' x 10' rollup door for tractor under that. (west side). 16' x 8' door offset on the south side. Too many doors and I would not have room for work bench and storage. This way I can get a breeze from a couple of angles. Pull through is a luxury for a larger shop.

This looking at the S.W. corner, PB is 40x60x12 6-12 pitch 100 lb snowload. This is March of 2014 not quite finished. I got the idea of the OH doors from my neighbor who had that on his 30x40 garage.

I moved the mandoor around the corner just to the right of the OH door. I put a insulated heated shop 22x33 in the S.W. corner with a 7x7 compressor room at the east end of it.

Lay out works perfect for me.

As others have said, it depends on a lot of factors. My own setup is nearly identical to yours. 40 x 60 and (2) 14 X 12 doors. I put mine on one end for the drive thru capability. Another door would be useful but I didn't want to lose the additional wall space intended for benches, wall storage, air compressor, welders, etc.

Too many other factors. Layout of land, location of driveway, planned usage. We would need more info.
What is it being used for? Storage, workshop? Wood shop?

What is going in and out those doors? Combine? Jet skis?

Which way does the wind blow from normally?

Like I said, need more info

If all else is equal, put the doors on the end away from the prevailing winds.

I think this depends on snow drifting conditions for the area. Crosswind is sometimes preferred.

I have a 40x50x14 with a U shaped Loft. I first thought I wanted a drive through door situation. But went with a single 12x12 door on the side closest to the house. I couldn’t part with that much wall space for the second door.

I have a 30x50 pole barn with a 12' wide barn door on each end. They are slightly off-center so it's 12', 12' (door), 6' if the end is measured. It also has a standard walk-through door in one of the 6' sections. This is a pretty standard pole barn layout and has served me well since I had it built in the late 90s. Good luck!

For a post-frame workshop 40' wide, 60' long, and 14' tall, with two overheads doors, each with the dimension of 12' wide and 12' tall, what would be the best placement of the two overhead doors?

I have an old 35x70 Ft implement shed that was on the property when we bought along with 2 big barns and a corn/wheat crib. It was mostly open on the 70’ west side. Closed on the 75’ east and 25’ sliding doors, that will accommodate a 8230 JD, on the 35’ north and south ends.
We enclosed the west side and I built 2-10’ sliding door between 2 of the posts a little over midway down the side and put a personnel door on the northwest corner. My only mistake was not making my new sliding doors taller. My enclosed 5x10 trailer barely fits, height wise. 1999 F250 fits but my 3 series does not with the ROS bar up.
So, as the guys have said, a lot of thought and considerations should go into this before you add/change anything. Remember, measure twice,,,cut once. I’m old so I measure a bunch of times and still don’t want to cut!!!

My 48’x36’x14’ pole barn has 2 12’x14’ sliders one on each gable end. They start 6’ from the corner and are lined up so you can drive straight through. I did that so I could park a truck with a loaded trailer inside for connivence. There is a man door adjacent to each because they toggle latch inside on each end of the door. I also added a man door in the middle the longer side. I have a full length 10‘ tall x 12’ deep lean-to addition for buckets, implements, and other important manly stuff. I am very pleased how it has worked out, but full disclosure I have used the drive through feature once. I just don’t park the trailer loaded, but I could.

I would guess you are using that primarily as a shop. When I bought my place, it only had one 12' wide door. With two trailers, a tractor, a truck and a car in it, I felt like I was playing Tetris everytime I wanted something out. The second door helped a lot.
