To cut expenses I never have more than 2 of them licensed and insured at the same time.
They are all non commercial.
The 86 Dodge D50 is the only one licensed & insured 12 months A year.
The 89 Dodge D50 is only licensed & insured during Oct through March. It is placed in storage during the remaining 6 month of the year.
The 89 Nissan is only licensed and insured April through June and is in storage the other 9 months of the year.
The 92 Toyota is licensed and insured July through Sept and is stored the other 9 months of the year.
This schedule greatly reduces license and insurance expenses.

Interesting... Why do you drive one truck year-round, but rotate three of the trucks throughout the year?

I was not aware you could buy license registrations for three month intervals in Ohio... How much do you pay to do this? I can't find any information about this on the Ohio BMV website... only information on one year and two year renewals.

Larry,

I really have to know, how does a schedule like that reduce license and insurance expenses. Did anyone else catch this???

just the tine it takes to go back and forth to the local DMV office, is enough not to do this.

Depends on how fast your local DMV office is. When I lived in NJ, the people there were paid "piece work" and they were extremely fast. I believe that the state did away with the private agencies that did it that way and they are now all government workers, so I have no idea of how fast they are. In MA, the DMV is run by the state, and depends on which office you go to, as to how fast you will get out. The one that I go to in CT is very fast, but they are only open 3 days a week, and the lines can be long at certain times. Also, in both CT and MA, you cannot hold onto your license plates unless you have insurance in force. You have to turn in the plates first before you can cancel the insurance. Ohio doesn't have that requirement, so he might just cancel the insurance and keep the plates active. If registration is only $5.00, it is cheap to keep them all registered. A friend was telling me about these bright yellow license plates that Ohio is now issuing. Anyone have one of those on there vehicle?

Nope not on any of MY vehicles :D
I hear they are looking issuing pink ones to registered ****** offenders, but I think that might pose some legal challenges.

Did anybody catch the comment you made about your schedule and savings. It doesn't make any sense to me. Can you explain how you save money by doing all them changes. If I was your insurance guy I would kick you out of my office making all them changes throughout the year.

Why do you think they get my business instead of their competition?
It's spelled better service for less money.

LBrown59...... You are assuming that it is legal to put a 1300 pound BX into the bed of the pick up and that it is safe. That, in my opinion is not a proper assumption. The basic BX (1800 / 2200) weighs aproximately 1300 pounds with the ROPS and no other equipment installed. A half ton pick up has a load carrying capacity of 1000 pounds, so you are already 300 pounds overloaded.. If you put the BX on a trailer, the only weight that is on the pick up is the tongue weight, which should be about 200 pounds. The other 1100 pounds is being carried by the trailer itself
Dusty
My dodge D50 has a 1300 pound payload so according to what you are saying I could haul the BX either in the truck or on the trailer correct?

Larry, I think you need to do some explaining here.
1*You mean to tell me that after all of these years buying 1 ton trucks I could have hauled the same with a cheaper 1/2 ton truck??
1*Depends on what you were hauling.
Sure you could haual a brick in either one of those trucks.

Only if it will fit into the bed and be secured properly. Just because it fits, doesn't make it legal. All loads must be properly secured to be considered legal. Also, you have to consider that the weight of the passengers is also calculated into that payload. Why don't you put the tractor into the bed of the truck and properly secure it with either straps or chains. Then go to the truck scales, and with yourself in the cab, have it weighed by a Ohio certified weigh-master. Then post the weigh certificate and a picture of the data plate, and tell us if your truck, with you and the BX have exceeded the GVW of the data plate of the truck. How long will it take to do this task?

1*Since one of those little 4 cylinder pickups have as much or more grunt than the full size trucks.
2*Since they will pull my 14k trailer no problem, are you sure they will stop the load okay?
//////
1* This isn't what I said but what I did state is
(For their size and weight these little import trucks have as much or more grunt than the full size trucks.
2*The thread isn't talking about 14 to 20K trailers or 7500 pound tractors and neither am i. lets keep it in the size and weight range the thread started out with shall we?

1*You mean you can't transfer the plates to another car?
Why not simply let the plates expire.
2*Ohio does allow stored vehicles to be exempt from insurance requirements
3*No body in their right mind would admit to having one of them on their vehicle.

answer: You can transfer to another car if you have one, but I was talking about keeping plates without having proper insurance, another subject.
2*Ohio does allow stored vehicles to be exempt from insurance requirements
Answer: That is what I said, so you are in agreement with me on this.
3*No body in their right mind would admit to having one of them on their vehicle.
Answer: Why not? It is the honest thing to do

How can you transfer plates from one vehicle to another if you still own the one you are transfering them from?

If the state of Ohio issues someone one of the yellow and red license plates, I really don't think you would have a choice whether you accept them or not. If one ends of with the plates, you can't simply say, "no thank you."
