I still had to drive the 800 miles to close the deal, but it was a sunny Saturday driving across the hills of Pennsylvania. Leaves were in full color. The reason UHaul wasn't used was simply price. They charge about $1/mile.

$1/ mile times 800 miles = $800.
Whenever I rented a truck for a long distance, I called all the truck rental companies and got the best deal, then I negotiated with the least expensive one for a better deal. You can't do this in the rental place, only by telephone. Once you get the best deal that you can do, you make the reservation with that person. All that is left to do is go to the rental yard and pick it up. The sales people on the phone work on a commission basis, so they never want to loose a deal. Make sure to always speak to the same person each time you call. A few years ago, I rented a truck one way 1200 miles and the total cost was $345, plus tax. No drop off fee either, since the truck was going to a area that needed trucks. All that they asked is that I deliver it to the dealer of there choice that wasn't too far from me. Dusty
