Pellet stove advice needed.

Myself, I am keenly eyeing the Enviro Omega. That's a sharp stove and with a self cleaning burn pot one dealer has run 35 bags of pellets through without even opening the glass door. Multifuel and high efficiency. Huge hopper for extended runs on a thermostat. More of a modern look than the Thelin but nice in a different way.

Well you might squeeze a small fan into that 27 watt power consumption, but not a very big one.

I really liked the Enviro's, and was seriously considering the mini. I probably should have got it anyway against my wife's wishes(she didn't like the more modern look), as it was well put together, really well insulated and VERY quiet.

Speaking of power consumption, your stove doesn't need to be a power hog to have a decent blower and multiple auger speeds. My Whitfield, 5-6 yrs old is rated at 80% efficient, has a 5 speed auger and 5 speed circulation fan and manual start. Using a Kill-a-watt meter, running the stove at mid speed on the auger and next to highest on the circulation fan, I'm showing a little under 100W consumption. Personally I'd select a model that had a decent efficiency rating, adequate air circulation and moderate power consumption over a model with the absolute lowest power rating.

Never have heard of the Thelin brand. Not sure if they are available around here.

I have had a Thelin Gnome for supplemental heat for about 4 years. It does have a fan. I bought it for it's design look in my 100+ year home. It puts out quite a bit of heat of course it is in a smaller room 14x16 with a six foot interior doorway opening I try to push some of the heat out of. I installed it myself with a 4 foot rise before exiting the house. On this one I just use the room air. Have never had a problem. It doesn't get burned alot. In fact I haven't used it yet this year. Only a few cold days (it's been in the 60's for the past several days again.)

I also have a baby countryside corn/pellet stove in my workshop. It does a great job of heating the shop which is fully insulated.

I really like the unique looks of the thelin stoves. They have some uniques design elements too that put it in the category of bizarre and the stoves are quite pricey. They just look so dang nice.

Here you'll find a forum with lots of great people and reviews of pellet stoves including the Thelins in their pellet "room". Lots of installed photos too.

A permit is required for installation in most every jurisdiction. Your insurance company will need to know. It is not unlike installing a new wood stove.

The little tiny Thelin almost looks like a stove you'd see on a boat. Nautical brasswork and scale.

Thanks for the reply and web site. Good info. There appears to be only one dealer in my area for the stoves. I was surprised to see this. Makes me wonder why? I'll be checking with my township about permits. Is there an inspection fee as well?

Bought mine from TSC (might have been Quality Farm Fleet back then) several years ago. I love it. thinking of getting a 2nd one. They are a lot higher in price now. I burn about 1 bag a day on low.

On my woodstove installation there was a permit fee which convered the inspection and was only about 50$. Very low hassle and all on-line.

One of the best local dealers close to me in Puyallup carries the Thelin stoves so they are available in the NW. Lucky Brush is their name.

Called my township today. Was referred to a 3rd party inspector for him to determine if I need a permit. I've had other people in different townships close to me that didnt require anything for installation. Go Figure. Waiting to hear back from this inspector.

Is there anyone here from Southern Pa? I only found 1 dealer for Thelin. Starting to look at other dealers. Enviro & Bixby. Also considering buying a multi-fuel stove. I had a dealer in the area try to convience me it wasnt worth doing? I like the versitility. Pellets were a problem last yr. Almost all dealers were out locally. This year everyone appears to have plenty.

I live in central pa , their our several stove dealers in Blair and Cambria County , how far south our you? I heat a large cedar ranch with oil and the family room with a pellet stove in the basement . Works great little work and maintenance for at leat 5 maybe 6 heating seasons. I purchased my from a box store in Feb , before aux heating was so big. Half off . My friend waited a year and did the same, heats his whole house with it. I buy 2 ton a year , average a bag a day, heats the basement at 71-72 on low. Keeps the mud room and kitchen area 67-68 upstairs . The noise from the augar and blower motor bothers me , i am sure a newer or better unit would address this .

But as long as it works I can live with it if I save on heating oil. I have a double face monster fireplace upstairs , to much work ,pellets you load once a day , clean a half coffee can of ash once a week have the look of a fire with no wood mess.

Thanks for the reply. Went to a few dealers yesterday. Only one was a Thelin dealer. I am in Souther York County in Dillsburg Pa.

I scapped the idea of buying a Thelin and tossed around a Enviro Empress or a Breckwell P23. I ended up purchasing the Breakwell P23 because the dealer gave me a good price and it appears it will more than well heat my home. (1500 sq feet) Any comments on this stove or my choice. I apprecate all feedback.

I know what you're saying about heating oil. My tank is an outside tank. I always burnt kerosene but this year switched to fuel oil with an additive to prevent gelling.........IT"S STILL TOO MUCH! Iam trying to get away from depending on OIL. I just hope our gov doesnt start regulating pellets!! Is there any tax credits for purchasing a pellet stove?
