Thanks for the input, all.

We are still thinking.

Found an affordable 3 pt spear on eBay. (Also the pallet forks.) But the use would be limited to just once a year. And I do want to be able to stack the bales (only 2 high using the bucket / pallet fork combo -- maybe winch them up to three if I can fit them in shed.)

The forks would be overall more versatile, but not if they won't work for the small round bales. Mmmm.

There is another thread on moving round bales. I'll peruse it again.

And California -- nice try with the apple boxes ;-) Remember how small we are compared to that tractor? :D

Update.

Bought the bucket mounted pallet forks - chain on with ratchet binders. We ran out of time for some of the other options.

Turns out my neighbor who bales for us showed up with his 4x5 round baler. Not his 4x4. (That was 15 miles away baling on another farm.)

No way I was going to try to move 4x5s.

Anyway -- turns out he put them up in our shed for us. :)

But I did have some squares, and after moving 70 with our truck, I finished off moving some of the "leftovers" from the field (~35 lb bales).

I could have put a couple more on ... ;)

Thanks for all your good input. Maybe by next year we will add a spear to our attachments -- and make sure we have 4x4 bales.
