Overheating Information

Yep depending on what im in i check every 30 mins or so. If its bad i continue to check as it is needed this often, if it is not as bad every few hours will work.

I started getting off the tractor every half hour or so and wiping the screen with my hand, which got a lot of it off. The suction from the fan holds it onto the screen pretty good.

I finally flushed YM2000 today with some "Bar's Leaks 10 Minute Radiator Flush" from the part's house. I drained it and flushed both ways with my water hose until radiator and engine produced clean water. Ran the snake oil through it while I ran the tractor fairly hard with the tiller. It noticeably ran much cooler with the hose flush and the snake oil. Drained that stuff and flushed with the hose again. Finished up with about 10% antifreeze and half a bottle of Redline Water Wetter. Ran the tiller some more and it was about the same as when I had water and the 12 oz of Flush.

Runs cooler than before and I got a good amount of brown water out with the hose and Flush. Water Wetter was about $10 and the other was about $3.

This seems a little unusual. How did you come about finding Cascade as a radiator flush? I assume the distilled water does something regular water won't do when you flush. Wonder what? Not meaning to sound smarty here, I find this very interesting.

cascade is just a surfactant. Most any caustic surfactant (soap) will help mineral and iron flakes to release and flush out. The distilled water should be used with all coolant fills, as it doesn't have minerals that will fall out of solution and deposit themselves in the water jackets during the heat cycling. You won't have to flush nearly as often if you use distilled.

I have a brother that has been a diesel mechanic for 30 plus years. He has recommended this concoction and still does. He said to use calgonite but all I could find was cascade. Probably similar. I don't have any scientific research to back this up but I have used it off and on for around 20 years and haven't had any problems.

Thanks for the feedback. Next change I am going to go this route. Last time I used a prestone flush and was not over joyed by the results. Will go with the distilled water also. That little cooling system won't hardly break me.

Apparently laundry soap is common in radiator shops we had an old guy here with a shop he is retired now but his soap of choice was dash detergent he swore by it.

I remember some 25 years ago reading in an automotive trade journal about a problem situation with detonation (spark knock) in a car engine. The technician checked engine timing, timing advance, cam timing, exhaust recirculation valve operation and everything else that could cause detonation. He was stumped. Finally, he stumbled across the problem after quizzing the owner. The owner had recently changed his own coolant and had install 100% antifreeze. After draining coolant and installing a 50/50 mix, the detonation problem was resolved.
