Oliver 1800

I am looking at an Oliver 1800 c and was looking for more info and input on the tractor.

It is showing 3500 hrs, runs strong, shifts smooth, and has descent sheet metal, some surface rust, but pretty good, no blow by, does not look all patched together.

The cons - some white smoke when you hammer the throttle (radiator holding good pressure, I think it may be timing?)

Brakes are very weak.

Starter (Delco) could stand a rebuild, does not always engage. There is a shop in town that should be able to re-build.

I would be using for mowing, some plowing to establish pastures, setting out hay, maintaining driveways, and maby adding a loader depending on if a used one comes up at the auctions.


It seems like a good tractor for the money and some cheap horse power.

Power steering also works great.

At a fast idle the pressure at the 2 rear remotes was 1500 psi.

Those old Olivers are fine old tractors, but I don't know what a fair price would be. Didn't they make the 1800 in both gas and diesel? I don't know exactly what the 1800C is. Most of my hay cutting and baling was done with an old Oliver (1855, I think) that a neighbor bought with over 5,000 hours on it, and it was a strong old machine.

This one is a diesel according to tractordata.com they made both gas and diesel. "C" is the 3 rd revision of the 1800 series where they had done some revisions of previous problems.
