My 3301 takes I think right at 14 gal so a 2.5 pail plus a 1 gal jug would do. I think the gallon jug was $58 so you might be better off buying 2, 2.5-gallon pails and have some for use later on.

It wouldn't be so bad if I didn't have to do an oil change on two HST tractors. The manuals for both say 12 gal, so I figure I'll need 5, 5 gal. buckets.

As you say, the price does vary by container size. It also seem to vary somewhat with the market.

I hesitate to buy from Amazon though. I've heard reports locally of counterfeit products being shipped.

I can usually find NAPA filter equivalents, but again, there is some concern over quality.

Kubota lists the HST oil capacity of the L3301 as 6.2 gal. So one 5 gal bucket + 1 one gal jug is correct.

It actually takes 10 gallons.
The manual is for the tractor, and tractor only.
The other 2 gallons are from the loader cylinders and lines.
Check if your manual’s specs are including a loader’s fluid capacity when planning ahead

Unless you drain the hoses, and cylinders then that shouldn't effect volume of fluid needed since they will already be filled and don't empty when you drain the hydraulic fluid from the tractor.

And I understand volume installed doesn't match what the manual shows. My nephews stump grinder engine calles for 78-80 oz but from 2014 to earlier this year always took 64 oz but for some reason the last oil change took the full 80 oz. My atv manual calls for 3.5 quarts and up until this past summer always took 4 quarts just to get the level between the two lines, and the last oil change only took the manual recommended 3.5 qts.

Yes, I retract the arm and bucket cylinders to minimum position, and they are mostly higher than the drain point at the bottom of the tractor. Yes they do drain out.. two gallons.
I also completely lower the 3ph per the manual, to minimize fluid in that cylinder as well

I was checking the Rotella website. They were a holdout on dual (SN) rating their diesel oils. Look like even they have fallen to pressures of the the lower phosphorus/zinc emissions compliant dual rated formula across the board. You can probably buy some older stock of diesel only rated T6 if you run across it.
Not a lot of options now if you’re a fan of high phosphorus/zinc diesel oil formulas

Sorry, LOL that's what I get for trying to read and write at the same time. I don't know what the heck I was thinking at the time. I been trying to blame it on spell check, but I guess I'll have to bite the bullet so to speak. I don't know where the 14 gals came from because it only takes a tad over 6 gals to do a hydro oil change in the L3301 HST. Thanks for correcting me on this one, I guess when you are pushing 80 weird stuff starts to happen.

6 gallons is chump volume for me. Each of my large frame Kubota's holds just shy of 15 gallons per change and 10 quarts of lube oil.

Messicks is notorious for exorbitant shipping charges, one of the main reasons I no longer buy from them.

Amascon on the other hand covers ship to costs so long as you buy a minimum amount pre determined by them and can wait for a period of time for delivery, something I always do as I don'[t need stuff instantly, anyway and why I've never subscribed to Prime either.

Just purchases a 5 gallon pail of Lucas 85-140 GL5 gear oil and a 5 gallon pail of their 'Red and Tacky' synthetic grease and it was free shipping.

Bought the grease to top off my air greaser.

No, I buy it in 55 gallon drums, remember, the bigger quantity you buy, the less it costs per unit. Buy my engine oil the same way, in 55's. One thing I did years ago besides owning 2 identical mechanically exact tractors (so I don't have to have different filters and such on the shelf), just one set is, I only buy and use Rotella T6 5-40 in everything. Cars, pickup truck, lawnmowers, anything 4 stroke gets 5-40 T6 and contrary to threads on here talking about not using a diesel rated oil in non diesel motors, I've had no issue with it in anything including my wife's Suburban or my Focus RS or my rototiller for that matter.

I do add Nano-Borate additive to my oil, always have actually. Nano-Borate keeps them clean internally.
