Hi folks: I decided to join today when I came across a thread about building a back hoe for a garden tractor. I am gearing up to do a similar project and hope to glean lots of useful tips from others who are looking on. I'm building this machine on the back of a Craftsman GT 18. It's an old tractor and retired from mowing the lawn. I call it my donkey because it can be stubborn and cranky, just like me. I have used it to haul stuff around the acreage but now it will embark on a new career - I hope!! I live in Manitoba, Canada and am a semiretired highway bus driver.

Thanks Sandman 2235: I am doing the digging you suggest and enjoying the stuff I'm finding. I hope to find suggestions for suppliers for items like cylinders and control valves and Hydraulic items generally. I live in Manitoba, Canada, so the closer I find things the better.

I think you will get plenty of suggestions for hydraulic parts suppliers if the guys on this board remain true to form.

I am really surprised that nobody has offered any hydraulics suggestions. I am still hoping but maybe you need to ask in the hydraulics section to get faster results.

Not to worry, good friend, I am just getting started and I have time to let the right stuff find me at this point. Once I really need them, that's when I'm going to start stressing. One of the local sites I can advertise on is Kijiji. I have had good success there in the past.

I'm hanging out on the build it yourself forum and getting lots of advice on a variety of aspects of my proposed (at this point) build. So the people on the forum have actually been quite forthcoming. The hydraulic section will be where I'll go if I run up against a wall in that department. Good suggestion, thanks!
