We like manuals, and I do think that was a bad move for GM. We would have a manual truck, but there are two reasons not to. One- Dad has on and off back problems, so a manual won't be good for him when he's in a bad time. Two- the truck goes under company name and bill goes to the company. My dad and grandfather have split the company between the two of them. So, since my grandfather owns the slightly bigger portion of the company, he decides what goes in the truck. Dad would own it all under normal circumstances, but my grandfather is 66 and WON'T stop working. He won't let us get a tractor with a cab because-"There's no use having a tractor if you can't sweat."

I know you know this Duane. I was just trying to give the kid all the info. He seems like a young man that likes to learn as much as he can so he can make a educated decision.

It does not need a manual shift feature because Ford has not abandoned manual trannys like GM. I wonder how many sales they have lost because of that bright idea. Granted the Allison is a great tranny but there are some die-hards that like banging gears.

Chris

Maybe far less sales than they've gained by offering a full featured 6 speed transmission made by a world leader in industrial grade transmissions like Allison. Look at GM's diesel truck sales figures since they offered the DMAX/Ally combo. They went way up.

You could also look at it the other way around. Maybe Ford feels they need to continue to offer a 6 speed maunal because they only offer an in house 5 speed auto with no manual shift feature.

Maybe Ford will change to a different transmission when they change to their new European made diesel engine next year.

I'm not buying another diesel truck without a combination of a factory exhaust brake and a name brand tranny again.

Any idea what it'll be called?
