I bought a new John Deere 3005 yesterday on my lunch hour. It will be delivered Friday. Their 0 percent/48 mo. offer expires Thursday. I started to buy one last summer(790) but things changed. I hope the 5105 doesn't get jealous.:D

cool. What are you getting with it(attachments). Are you replacing the ford or just want more green tractors around? Need pics when you get it.

Getting just the tractor right now. I am planning on getting a 5 ft. finishing mower in the spring as the tractor will be used mostly for mowing. I have some old planters I want to adapt to use on it. I don't know when I will ever get to fixing up my 8n and I wanted another small tractor. I have been adding another shed to my tractorshed and hope to get the tin on the roof Saturday, so I probably won't get to play with the "new baby" too much but I will post some pictures of the "family".:)

Here they are, I spent Saturday afternoon and this afternoon trying to finish the roof on the shed,so except for using the tractor for pulling the trailer to get tin from my old shed , I didn't have to much time to play with it.

nice looking rig and shed. I didn't want to get my tractor till I had a place to put it inside so I built my pole barn first. I am sure you will have fun with it.

Congrats on your new Deere! I always liked the looks of that series of tractors - 790, 990 and the 670-1070 machines before that.

Very rugged and reliable and economical, too. Be able to run that baby all week on 5 gal. of diesel!

Thanks for the pics, too. It warms my soul to see green grass in November!!!

Really should have said 3005 and 4005 to keep up with Deere's "new and improved" model numbering...

But they still look like a 790 and 990 to me -

I had to laugh when I read the owners manual, the pictures clearly showed 790 on the hood. I hope those 3005 decals didn't cost me too much! :D

Except for the 3005 badging and the 2WD looks exactly like my 790 except for that shelf just above the starter motor and behind the alternator. Wonder what that is for.

Reminds me of those food warmers on a snowmachine (right next to the exhaust manifold)... fellow could put his lunch there when moving snow and after a couple of hours settle in for a nice, hot lunch! :)

'Course you'd have to wait quite a spell for snow in Louisiana...

I think it is probably a heat deflector to protect the starter. I wouldn't want to put a SARDINE sandwich in there and forget about it!:D

I read on here about issues with the battery leaking and making a mess on them, and sure enough it happened to mine. The dealer replaced the battery plate under warrantee, but it was still an agravation. So I bought a plastic battery box so it won't happen again.

After a year, that and a hydraulic coupling on the FEL has been my only issues. The longer I own and use it, the more convinced I am that is was the best choice for me. Good luck with your new ride!

I'm glad you brought that up. I also have a 5105 that the OEM battery was equipped with a vent hose. Battery died under warranty, JD replaced with heavy duty battery without vent. Battery bounces around and leaks. Gotta take front grille and stuff off clean up and repaint with protective paint. Next battery will be an Optima or one with vent hose. I will keep close check on the neww tractor. Thanks.
