Neutral gear start bypass

/ Neutral gear start bypass #61
My 1996 jd870 would kill the engine if i left the seat under any conditions. Just to raise up a bit to see over the hood…..engine dies.
I've seen others report the same, and always thought it was weird. I guess I've just been lucky to have landed models or years where they don't do that.

I have owned four Deere's, and none have operated that way. Mine have been 1986 (855 MFWD), 1990 (garden tractor), 2007 (757 ZTrak), and 2019 (3033R). I won't pretend to remember how the 1990 garden tractor worked, I think we sold that one in 1992 when I inherited a heavier Wheel Horse, but all others would only shut down when leaving the seat if PTO was running.

I've never understood why manufacturers do this. Both of my Deeres, built 1986 ad 2019, keep running if I leave the seat, as long as rear PTO is not running. They prevent forward momentum, and will come to a quick stop if I leave the seat, but they do not switch off the engine.
Mine’s a power shuttle transmission. They have to kill the fuel injection to get the tractor to stop.
What brings your’s to a quick stop without effecting the engine? Im assuming yours is a hydo.

Yep. All three of those that stopped without shutting down engine have been hydro.

And that's why I'm having trouble remembering the operation of the garden tractor, as that one was manual transmission with foot pedal clutch.
