A year or so ago Tractortaylornut showed us some pictures of his neighbor Jimmy's homemade loader. I've been searching but can't locate that thread. Can't get that loader out of my mind either. It was made by cutting axles to shorten them. Question is , is it a big job to shorten axles without a lathe to keep everything straight? I am thinking of a setup that basically takes a front wheel drive and adds rearends where each front wheel would be to add mechanical advantage and slow it down. Any headsup advise from anybody that has tried would be welcome.note rearends are actually frontends from a pickup and only one side would need to be shortened so both sides are even measuring from centre of differential.

Jimmy used halfton Chevy truck axles and lopped off one side then bought 2 new short axles frome Auto Zone. for reduction hes using 2or 3 toyota tranfer cases and it acts like a shuttle shift to. Its motor comes from a Dodge minivan he converted from injection to a one barrel carb off and old 219 Chevy.
He thought of building a super small one out of Suzuki axles but he's been side tracked. Jimmy has retired and makes a living with his little loader. Since i have a Digital camera ill try to get a few more pictures of the guts of the machine.
