Need some help

I have a YM336D in which the ignition switch has become loose. There is a stainless steel or chrome bezel with two small holes opposite each other that seems like should come off to reveal a retaining nut. Is this correct and if so, is there some special tool that is necessary to accomplish this.

There is a special tool but I don't know where you could get one. Usually we just use channel locks. Wrap a rag around the nut to keep from scratching it if you want.

I think the special tool is Snap Ring Pliers that come in a variety of sizes and quality. The tips turned 90 degrees fit into those two holes, but as mentioned, you can make do with other pliers in most cases.

If you don't have snap ring pliers try needle nose.They would be less likely to bend or break.then use something in between the handles for leverage.

I took this picture a while back to illustrate that the replacement switch uses a different key.

Are you talking about the bezel on this old (removed) switch? The bezel itself is the retaining nut. Like Aaron said use Channellock pliers. Shielded with a rag, or electrical tape in the pliers' jaws.

I seen yours Cal. and its was like wait a dang min. I know I used needle nose pliers someone must have just notched it.

Yes Cal, just like the one on the left. I ended up using channel locks and only scarred it a little. It seems tight on the switch but the switch and bezel together still have a little play so I may have to add some gasket/washer material. Thanks to everyone for your help.

There is supposed to be a fiber washer between dash and switch. Sometimes it wears, breaks, and falls out. Use gasket material, neoprene, etc. to make one.
