Need some help- small anti-freeze leak on Deere 2305

Hi

This morning I went out to the shed and was surprised to see a small puddle of liquid underneath the front axiel of my Deere 2305. It appears to be Anti-freeze seeing as its green. I checked for loose hoses or clamps but can't seem to trace where this leak is coming from. Its right underneath the front axiel. Am I missing something to check out? I called the Dealer and they are suppose to be sending a tech out to look at it. I have not come across this problem before on my other Deere's with Yanmars and I am still new to my 2305 Deere. I used it yesturday and several times in January/and Febuary already and had no anti-freeze leak. Am I missing something to check out? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Jason B

I think it is coming from the anti freeze reservior overflow tube that runs down to the front axle. I noticed my JD 3520 did that a couple of times with just a small spot the size of a fifty cent piece on the concrete floor and I traced it to the tube. For whatever reason I attributed it to not running the tractor only a short period of time as when I have run it for an extended period I don't see anything after I park it in the shed. I've noticed it twice and they were both short trips with the tractor. Its not enough to change the fluid level in the reservior but you still don't like to see anything but a clean dry floor under the tarctor. Maybe someone with more knowledge can chime in on this.

Thanks! I will have to take a look at the reservior hose and see if thats what's causing the problem. The small leak seems to be close to the front right tire on the tractor but I can't seem to see any wet spot above the leak where it's coming from and definately is from the 2305 as its been parked in the same spot since I got it. I have ran it serveral times in Jan/Feb blowing out laneways and all of sudden it just started doing it yesturday.

Any idea as to where this reserver hose would be? I looked over the tractor and am having problems idenifying its location would be. The engine/ radiator might be set up different for the 3520 over the 2305 but I am not sure.

You're right the hose might be different on your 2305 as compared to my 3520. I just traced up to the spot where it looked like it was coming from and there was the end of the hose. Looking from the seat mine is on the left side of the radiator and dumps out at the front of the left axle.

The local Dealer was out this afternoon, and were both at lost as to where the leak is. They did a pressure test on the rad and the pressure is down a bit but nothing to worry about I was told and is holding pressure. Its a mystery as above the spot of anti-freeze on the floor is all dry, nothing wet at all. The mechanic told me to keep an eye on it, and the only possiblity is that the bottom of the rad might have a crack in it... I really hope not, but was told to keep an eye on it to see if the leak persists or comes back at all. I will keep an eye on it.

I had similar problems on my X748. It gradually got bad enough to see the radiator was leaking at the bottom where the plastic and core met. New radiator fixed it. Took two years to get bad enough to identify. Passed the pressure test too. It was worse in winter and always stopped when warmed up. Something else to look for.

Ok Thanks, I will have to keep an eye on it and see if gets any worse... If it does then I will likely have to put in a new Rad... I will keep an eye on it and if the leak gets really bad then a new Rad will have to go in.... I imagine they are not cheap.

dItto on the overflow tube. I had a few drips from the tube where it connects to the fill cap on the radiator a few years ago. I pushed the tube onto the fitting alittle tighter and it stopped.

Have you look also at the possibility of the radiator drain plug? Its on the right hand bottom of your radiator, white plastic wing nut style. You can partially see it in this picture just below the rad and above the hoses. Could be a little loose and let a few drip once in a while.:thumbsup:

I will have to take a look at this, and it might be a possiblity as well. I am not 100%. There was no anti-freeze leaking from the hoses or clamps so this might be a possiblity, will check tommorrow. Thanks Jason B

I am not sure if its the overflow tube thats leaking, the small leak was behind the right hand tire. About a dims sized. I am hoping its not something too serious. Take Care Jason B

Have them put a tracer dye in the coolant to help pinpoint the leak. The dye fluoresces in UV light making it easier to locate.

Can you buy this tracer dye though stores such as TSC? The dealer was out today, and they sent one of their new mechanics out already to look at it, they could not find it... I might try and get this dye and try it myself.

Call your local auto store that caters to the professional mechanic (NAPA or others). Then again you might get lucky with your local Autozone, Pep Boys or whatever is in your neighborhood.

I do not recall seeing it at TSC.

Take a look at the weep-hole area of the water pump. Not the easiest thing to see, but its another possible area where a leak could originate. Mine failed at 150 hrs. Good luck.

If can't find w/ hose checks, etc. try removing the fan shroud and see if there are any bent fins. If there are, the fan has contacted the radiator and you could have a hole in the core. Had a 2305 w/ several holes and ended up replacing w/ 2520. Keep an eye on it - the temp sensor is only good for the fluid overheat. No fluid = no high temp = really bad things with lotsa zeros in the price tag. Problem is some 2305 flex-mount radiators is there is too much flex and if you hit something, the radiator flexes back right into the water pump assembly. Best of luck!

I had the Deere Dealer come out 2 weeks ago, and they did a Pressure Test and could not find a Leak. They looked at the Water Pump a bit and could not find anything. Blew snow with it a couple of times afterwards, no leaks. The Tempurature has been all over the place. Went out this morning and there was a small puddle of anti-freeze on the ground again. If its a crack in one of the hoses it must be hard to find or a location I can't see it. Took the 2305 out to the dealer this afternoon, I don't have time to mess with it myself but am a little concerned. I am getting the Dealer to check for bent fins on the Fan to see if theres a hole in the Core. I will get them to dubble check the Water Pump, where it seeps out... they might have missed something last time. The problem is, the leak is anti-freeze puddle appears on the ground but can't seem to find the leak. I am hoping that I don't need to pull the Rad or theres a hole in it.

Yeah, Its a bit frusterating but hopefully they find the problem. I am hoping its something small. When they did the pressure test the first time around, the machanic said the pressure was down a bit but nothing to be too concerned about, now it leaks a bit.
