New to tractors and I dont know if this is a good roller or not or if it is a good deal or not? It is a pin hitch and weighs 400-450lbs. They are asking $150. We just purchased a JD 4300. Any feeback is appreciated. Thanks

srjones said:Is it a good deal? Well, the answer depends on a few questions:
1. Does it roll, or is it badly rusted/siezed. Is there any place to grease the bearings?
2. Is it straight (unbent/undamaged)
3. Do you have any metal fabrication skills and a desire to build it yourself? A well casing filled with concrete will get you pretty close to that.
4. How badly do you *need* a roller?
To me, $150 seems a little steep, but then again I don't *need* a roller.

A few more thoughts on your questions...
If you're using this to flatten a seedbeed, there are black plastic lawn rollers (water fillable) that go for under $100.
Also, contact the CL poster just to let them know you're interested. It may already be sold, and this discussion is moot.
Anyway, good luck.![]()

I bought a smaller one at HomeDepot about 8 years ago and the price hasn't seemed to go up that much.

I had a 4' plastic roller for a while, and I would not get a plastic one again for smoothing, the plastic just gives way to hard objects, and it got a large flat spot on it from sitting with water in it.
IMHO, a steel roller will serve you better. The TSC near me sells 4' and a 5' steel rollers.
