Hi all, I have JD 4500 4X4 with FEL. During the summer when the fields are growing I hire myself out to flailmow the fields for my customers. I have a field that causes me a major sphincter pucker when I mow it. The mower weighs nearly 800 pounds. I mow travelling up and down the hill - its probably a little more than a 25 degree incline. Fortunately, there is a nice flat spot on the top of the hill and bottom of the hill allowing me a safe place to turn around. I don't think the FEL provides enough counterweight, although the tires have never left the ground. I have been thinking that I'd to take my old dumbbell weight set and retro fit them to the front wheels (Approx. 400 pounds worth of weight. ). Do you think that is enough to offer me a less stressful ride and help keep the front tires on the ground where they belong? Thanks.

Why don't you just through the weights in the loader bucket out front to give you more stability?and its easy enough to remove them and it increases your down force the farther foward they are.

Hi Roger,
I have a few spots that raise the hair on the
back of my neck and arms when I mow. If the
weights work that's the way to go or try going up
hill backwards pushing your mower, put a round
bail on your front bale spike and if all else fails.
do what I did. Put all the difficult mowing fields in
graze for cattle. Mowing is next to nothing now.
Happy mowing.
