My Truth on RK Tractors

At least when I bought our PowerTrac factory direct, I KNEW there was no dealer network and I'd either have to do the repairs myself, find a local shop to do repairs, or send it back to the factory for repairs. So far, I've been pleased as punch with the factory telephone and parts support and me doing any repairs. But I was aware of this going into the deal. No grey areas, no foggy details, no mystery.

Not only that, but PT makes their own stuff. They don‘t have another company make it then resell like RK. Much better.

They make the chassis and hydraulic cylinders, but they don't make the engines, hydraulic pumps and motors.

Makes or assembles? YES there is a difference.

I had no idea PT builds engines, hydraulic cylinders, hoses, pumps and all the other parts of a PT.

My TYM shop was a grass cutter and chainsaw shop. When I tried to get a quote, they really didn't want to be bothered with it and seemed like they had trouble using the system to do so. Then they shuffled me off so they could sell another customer some trimmer string.

Now they're out of business and the nearest TYM shop is another grass cutter place a couple of hundred miles away.

Went to our local Rural King yesterday to pick up some things. Haven't been there in months. Noticed about a dozen RK tractors of various sizes in the parking lot. Got to wondering who's going to service them? Can't recall from the RK Tractorguy conversations a couple years ago about who was going to do that. I was curious, so I drove around the entire exterior of the store. There is only 1 normal sized overhead garage door on that building. No other visible exterior doors other than man-doors (except for the two on the loading dock, which you couldn't drive a tractor through unless it was on a high trailer). I don't think you could fit the RK cabbed tractor that was out in the lot through that 1 overhead door.

So who services these and how?
The tooth fairy Mossy. Don't be silly.

I remember when our local Rural King sold Photon or Foton (sp) tractors for a while then they went away. Several of us questioned the RK guy on that, and he had no answer to our concerns about how RK was going to handle warranty, service, maint, etc. based on no service departments at the current stores, no mechanics, that kind of thing. I recall a conversation that they would only sell the RK tractors at RK stores that they'd set up service facilities at. Don't know how that went, or what they do now, if they contract with mechanics, employ them directly, pick or or drop off, how field service would be done, what if you can't fix it in the field...

There was genuine concern that the whole plan might not work out based on their past adventures into tractor sales.

Most of us really hope(d) they make it. It would be a shame if the venture went south, and it would be nice to have another brand with good service/parts to consider.
