Mowing mowing over sandy soil

Yeah, interesting thread.

Sand is sand and there is a reason it used as a hardcore abrasive for removing paint and the hardest of finishes.

I've heard of the Rhino/Dura-liner material being used for extending the life of various pieces of equipment including a shredder. As noted above, it's some pretty resilient stuff and I'd use it in a heartbeat to proof and shield a sensitive unit......hardens like metal and waterproofs like rubber.

It'd be good for proofing your mower's deck, but, the blades are what they are and coating them with anything will kill their effectiveness. Teflon? Might shield some abrasion but will also effectively "dull" the blades as well.

As a poster above noted, unless you're willing to line your unit with strips of used rubber, a coat of this is the best for the deck and living with the wear and replacement of your blades in probably the best option.

i live in the sandhills of south caroliona. we keep about 7 acres of area cut with a finish mower.over the last 20 years i have been through a number of different types of mowers and mowing decks(small ford lgt, bush hog finish mowers etc). every time we mow it is like sand blasting the blades and the under side of the deck.has anyone had this experience ,dose any one know of something that will help extend the life of the decks in this situation. we have tried low lift blades, but it dose not help much.
