Model Year Question??

I'm having a little trouble verifying the actual model year of my tractor. It's a Mahindra 5525 that I purchased in July 2009. After contacting Mahindra they said that the tractor was invoiced to the dealer in Dec of 2007. So I asked the dealer and they had to look into it, and said that they bought 48 tractors on that invoice and that they actually didn't get mine until 3rd quarter of 2008 and that it was indeed a 2009 model.

With that said I came home today and looked my tractor over and noticed the information on the tractors engine. It states that it complies with 2007 model year US EPA requirements..... Does that mean it's indeed a 2007 MODEL???

Going from your information, it was ordered 12/2007 and received third quarter 2008. To me that would indicate a 2008 model. How could it be a 2009 model, as your dealer says?

It may still have been made in 2007, however. Either your serial number plate has a date of manufacture and/or the serial number has the year of manufacture incorporated somewhere in the multi digit number.

OK, I'm wondering what if anything I should do. The tractor is great, other than instrument panel issues but the dealer quickly came out and replaced it. But the new one the tach displayed too low. So I'm going back out to the dealer and they are giving me a 2nd one to try out.


I'm just a little disapointed if it's not a 2009 model. But it's tough to find out actually what year it is.....

I wouldn't worry about it, as long as there wasn't a vast change and improvement for 2009, the tractors will be the same. As long as the tractor works well, use it for the purpose that it is intended for.

The model year is alot less important on a tractor than a car. On a tractor its more the hours that matter. As long as yours had close to 0 hours on it when you bought it, it was a new tractor.

I would think you could email the manufacturer with the VIN and they could tell you what the date would be. I bought my tractor used and found in the manual I got with it where it was delivered to the previous owner at the end of December in 2004. My question is whether it is considered a 2004 model or 2005. I guess I am basing it on my experience with trucks. The unit didn't change at all between the two years so it really isn't a big deal with me one way or the other. I would just like to verify for my own information.

From the Mahindra website:

"3-year limited warranty (3-year engine and power train warranty - see dealer for details)".

Sounds like it is to your benefit to have it a 2009 model. I would want the dealer to verify it in writing that it is indeed a 2009 model. If he hems and haws about putting it in black and white, well....you know the rest of that story!

Yeah I think the warranty is from the time the dealer sale the new tractor.

Maybe it isn't a big deal but I wouldn't like it if the dealer told me it was a 2009 when I bought it and it turned out to be a 2008.

My understanding is that Mahindra bases the 3 yr warranty off the sale date on your contract, not the manufacture date on the engine.
3rd Q 2008 sounds like a 2008 model year leftover - but as long as you got a good deal, are getting good service from the dealer, and are happy with the way the machine works, you should be OK.
If he told you it was a 2009 and it's not, I suspect it was an honest mistake, not an intentional lie.
