metal roofing.

/ metal roofing. #21
Just had my roof installed last April, 38 squares.
It took 3 men 2 days to do it.
They pre-drilled on the ground AND screwed it through the rib per engineers and inspectors approval.
Roofer explained that on flat rubber washer can leak, on rib water has to hit screw to leak.
They covered old roof with Rino-Roof synthetic covering.
Inspector commented on how neat the appearance was with the pre-drilling!
One man?? Depends on your age and experience.
There was a time I might have tried it.
ALSO!! Do not leave the panels uncovered where moisture/rain can get to them.
If wet galvanic action will ruin the finish in hours/few days.

We pre dill and install screws on ribs. Just set your gun to the right tightness and go. I prefer custom installed with no screws showing for my house. That is for the professionals though. Everything is crimped and caulked, edges folded over the drip edge. Looks nice and no screws to leak or get ripped out by ice.

The ribs are there to allow for heat expansion. With screws at the bottom, that's much easier on them and there neoprene seals.

It is easier with 3 people, two on roof and one on the ground. To get it square, put a few sheets with 1 screw each, easier to set everything square. My camp, 35 x 22, only have a screw per sheet, when it was all covered we put all the screws in. Harder to widen the ribs if you screw on top this way, and easier to correct if you get out of whack with the roof. Where to screw, manufacturer should be able to say for the style you are using, I usually go on the flat of the sheet.
Im doing my house next year, 4/12 pitch, probably will be just me, if i get a day with no wind.

I used Redwood Blocking that conformed to the rib contour...

My screws went through the rib right into the redwood... thought was worthwhile buying the blocking...

Job was 35 years ago and still good...

Does anyone use the blocking... it also keeps insects from having easy access to the underside of the rib.

I did my 30x30 garage with just my girlfriend helping. It would have been pretty difficult without her limited help though. the roof was almost 12' from the ground.

I vented the peak.

I didn't use the blocking.
