The barn needs new roof and I was wondering if anybody done it - of course:) - and still remembers ball park figure $/square foot.

I just need to know what I am looking at, that's all.

+ screws.
Good luck

The last metal that I bought for a barn roof (26 ga. 5 ridge - 39" wide/36" coverage) ranged between $1.79/lin ft and $2.49/lin ft, depending on when I bought it (it's been about 6 months since I bought any). Of course it is highlyl dependent on fuel and steel prices.

I buy it locally at farm store where it comes pre-cut to any lenght to within 1", so I get to custom order exactly the lengths I need. I honestly don't know if I pay a great premium for that, but I like being able to get just what I need.

Good luck and take care.

To clarify, the cost was per lineal foot (about 3' wide), so the sq/ft cost would be 1/3 of that. This is material only, no installation cost.

Thanks.

Army Grunt was posting while I was typing - looks like we are similar in the price range. I think that galvanized is cheaper here as well, but I've never bought any.

Thank you, gentlemen!

It rings a bell, the pricing/sizing and numbers too - I got it last time from Farmer's Coop for the kids tree house.

The roof is total 20'x40' low angle A frame; seems like 1000 dollars with screws and ridge and such should cover it.

If you are looking at installed cost, I had a 40 x 48 re-roofed last year, with trim, vent ridge and gutters for just over $6K. That was best of three bids. (Also in case you need to impress the wife with the value of your labor - maybe you can justify another tool or implement.)

I had to replace about six panels on my barn this summer, I did it myself, and purchased 6 panels, that were 9' long, 2'2" wide for about $170.00 plus $24 in the special metal roofing screws. I went to Carter Lumber. I'm not sure if you have Carter Lumber stores where you are...

That sounds like a reasonable bid. There really isn't that much labor in metal roofing, particularly if you have a simple roof. Anyone with a lot of weird angles should just hang it up and nail down 3-tab.

Back in the '90s I marveled at some of the architect's wet dreams they were building for houses. The roofs were steep and all cut up, prone to leaks and incredibly expensive to maintain.
