I've got a flexible head magnet that I've used to get myself out of situations similar to this one........

I keep hoping for a miracle fix. Supporting you mentally. :(

When I was a kid we had to pull and repair the Live Hydraulics on a John Deere 50. I am always amazed how clean the gears are, and how pristine the paint is on the inside of those castings. Must be good stuff.

Good luck on phase 2 of your project. Are the threads still okay in the hole on the bolt you had to drill out? I too hope you get a miracle fix.

The threads are in great condition, with no damage. I'll need to locate a replacement countersunk slotted head screw. This bolt was an oddball but it allows the speed control lever to pass over the head.

I'm in deep now and feeling the pressure. It is amazing how good it looks inside. Thanks to everyone for the continued feedback.

I'll continue to press on and post feedback with photos.

Anyone know where I can get a replacement bolt like the one drilled out ?

G'day Rc1700
It's not the first time the control valve roller has been dropped inside ,as said use a magnet and recover it .
The small star wheel on the control lever ,screw it in till there is say two to three mm gap between the lever and the wheel .
With the engine stopped and the engine stop lever pulled all the way OUT put a block of wood or whatever to hold the lift arms UP then remove the small plate (Transfer Cap) under the seat,(front right hand corner of the cover) 5/8 or 11/16 wrench) the one that has the small LUMP in the centre when the cap is of the pipe with the O ring on it should stick out about 5mm if it sticks out more that that it means that the pipe has pulled out of the pump to put it back use a Philips head screwdriver one that will fit inside the pipe use the handle to guide the pipe back into the pump using your left hand inside to feel the hole in the pump when the pipe is in the hole push down firmly and the pipe will Click into place, slowly lower the lift arms ,be carefull if you drop the arms oil will shoot out and you will leave an oil stain on the shed roof only joking be carefull, when the arms are down crank the engine with the stop out and oil should flow out of the pipe next step put something under the tractor to catch the oil ,start the engine on IDLE and put your finger inside and push the pump control lever the one that the roller fits into forward the oil flow will stop and when you let it spring back the oil will flow,if all is good fit two new O rings to the cap and replace it.
To refit the roller tie a safety ,anti drop piece of cotton and tie it onto the roller, in one of the small grooves this will help to recover it when you drop it six times ,now the tricky part set the Draft and Position levers in the up position this will make it easier then with your left hand use the back of your fingers to hold the lift lever BACK then with the roller between your index and second fingers push the control lever forward and fit the roller ,the pin nearest you first then spring the control lever more towards you and fit the other end of the roller when done start the tractor and operate the levers ,put the Draft lever all the way back into the UP position and leave it there.
Using the Position lever move it all the way forward into the Down Position then all the way Up make sure that the roller does not loose contact with the star adjusting nut at any time ,if it does loose contact this indicates that the control valve is sticking and the pump will have to be removed ,generally if the control valve sticks it can be sometimes unstuck by moving the lever back and forth to ease it if not remove the pump, if you need more info just ask.
Hutch.

P.S. use either a slotted or a countersunk head allen screw the thread is 7/16 UNC x 1 inch long

I think this is a pic of an older model version of what shoan13 is referencing ...
