If there is something to the part about copyright info available to the public, would it be different if it were in a private website only available with a password? Only a thought.

I'd be willing to contribute info and photos as needed.

Hey guys,

This is a good idea.. certainly something that would add to the TBN community and be a valuable resource for all members.

In light of that, we would like to offer to host this project. It sounds like what you guys are looking for is a place where you can submit "articles" (content of various kinds) and have them be available at all times without having to search through forums.

There are many commercial software products available on the market that can do this... the articles can be organized by category and will always be available.

We have wanted to do something like this for a while, but since I don't have the time to write the articles, it never got off the ground.

We can start to look at some software products and proceed if you guys like the idea of having it be on TBN.

Posting what you post here in a more organized environment by tractor type I doubt would infringe on their copywrite. You can have the appropriate disclaimers that it is just opinion and to be used at the reader's own risk. If it did violate their copywrite, you would have long ago heard from them and this forum would be banned by Tractorbynet.

You are their sales force. Without us, they would not succeed in this product line. In fact, they would have even more sales if this were to occur as the single biggest barrier to buying their products is their absolute ludicrous/useless manuals. What they should do is "haunt" that new site and comment when they agree or disagree like someone does here from Robin.

Judging by the positive feedback, this is a worthy concept.

This is a good start. But the articles to me are the "precursor" to an "approved" electronic manual. So, someone posts their article, it is vetted by users until their is a consensus or agreement on other approaches, then added to the "manual". The manual then is place in the area Muhammad is offering. If it is not too expensive, having some short videos for more complicated items would be excellent. Certainly inserted pics would be ideal. So if the manual was posted as a pdf with pics...there we go.

Actually, how I could see the concept being the most useful would be as a fully functional website [whether within, associated with, or non-associated with TBN]. Of course, the information would still be originally sourced as funpilot just mentioned or similar methods.

i.e.
First page: pictures with [or as] buttons of each general model
next page: category buttons: Maintenance Charts, Engine, Steering......
Then: subcatagory buttons [if required]: Fuel, Carburation, Valves, Exhaust..........
And finally: the exact topics under the appropriate catagory or subcatagory: even better if it has links to pictures, videos, discussions here, or even similar topics on the site. Of course, the same topic could be referenced from many different points [the identical fuel filter might be found on 4 different machines and be referenced both by a maintenance chart or a fuel issue].

Actual recommended maintence topics could even be separted from improvements by titles or columns on each page or how about color coded: from standard procedure - to common obvious improvement: to radical [not sure if any of mine qualify for that yet, but getting there! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif ]

Too bad PT wasn't supportive of the concept, while they have great service, I just can't envision them taking it to the level I just mentioned (though they do have a good point that only they could utilize [short of their support anyway] the ID number, you don't know for sure what idiosyncracies or exact parts your unit has without it).

Anything short of something that can work with multiple layers and overlapping references I can't see being too much quicker than a search as we already know it.

A neat side advantage, blank spots would be really obvious, so for several monthes I think we'd have some new topics or certainly revisit many discussions. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

It seems too many people have gotten "bad advice" from discussion forums

/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
I wish she would have elaborated. This is the only place I know of with a PT forum and I think almost any questions here are quite intelligently discussed. Of course, I have given plenty of questionable advice here, but always add fair warning if so. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

On the positive side, if everything is gleaned from discussions here, and no pictures or text is pasted from their manual, I don't see copyright issues [probably would need to have the standard "non-associated disclaimer" though].

I really do wish they'd provide some feedback here. I'm sure they are too busy to be making forum posts, yet I'd think it'd save quite some burden on incoming calls and repetitive questions.

It does seem somehow appropriate for the PT forum to pave the way at that: considering how [I think] we have more experiments on our machines than most, why not an "electronic" experiment too! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

i.e. if I'd be liable for copyright infringement for putting any of their information on a site, then I'm not going there...

Respecting copyrights is important and a always needs to be considered when creating a web site.

I looked over the Manual PT provided when I purchased my machine in 2003. I found no indication that any of the pages have been copyrighted.

I’ll second that, thanks Muhammad for the offer. What better place to piece this together than TBN the original source.

If the company is going to discourage this idea, you would think they would at least monitor this site for potential improvements, and or problems with their equipment. If this were my product I would want to stay on top of all feedback.

Thats how a great product becomes even better.
