Yesterday morning a local 45 year old man was crushed to death in front of his 12 year old son when his tractor flipped backwards while trying to pull a tree. No ROPS on the older model red tractor.

If the line was attached to his drawbar, how did the tractor flip over? Did it turnover?

You would be surprised at the number of people that attach to their BB or other attachments for pulling, instead of the drawbar. With the chain around upper frame structure of a box blade that is raised will put the point of attachment way above the axle. Unfortunately, most people don't realize the risk until they latch onto something stout and go to yanking.

IT never occured to me how unstable tractors can be until I owned one... I have had my litte BX24 on two wheel a few times already and it scared the piss out of me. I make sure I wear the seatbelt when the ROPS is up which is all the time...

My gramp flipped a tractor way back and lived...the wheels were frozen to the ground in the morning and it went right over backwards.
