Comparison Mahindra Vs Deere - resale concerns?

Buy the tractor you are most comfortable to be on and operate. Not just drive around a dealer's lot.

Buy the (tractor from the) dealer that you are most comfortable dealing with. Just because the dealer is 3 miles from you doesn't mean he will give as good a service as the dealer 20 miles from you. Talk to all the staff........sales, parts counter, and mechanic(s).:thumbsup:

Gears may not sound like a big deal, but the more you have the easier it is to get engine RPM-ground speed just how you want-need it. I have 2 Mahindra's, a 3215 HST and a 7520 4x4. The 7520 has 12F/12R syncro trans. While this has worked for me, I think that a 16F/16R trans would have been nicer, but they do not offer that and I never thought that I would need more than 12 gears. After having the 12F/12R tranny, I cannot imagine having to contend with fewer gears. It seems to me that it would be very difficult to get everything just right. There is a much bigger gap between gears and believe it or not, it is nicer to have all those gears in reverse also.

The 5035 has 5 GPM for the steering and 11 for the remotes. the JD 5055E has 6.8 for the steering and 11.4 for the remotes. So yes there is a difference, but it is not 11 vs 18. the JD 4320 is 5.1 and 12. So yes JD has the hydraulic advantage.

I agree fully agree with the comments about the number of gears. Less than a 12x12 is a deal breaker for me.

When i first bought my current tractor (TYM T390) I could not imagine even needing 12 gears. After using it in all types of conditions and with different implements I often wish I had a gear ratio between the ones I have.

I guess is all depends on what you have planned for the tractor.

Mahindra makes a good tractor but dealer presence around my neck of the woods is non-existent...

We have a very good Massey/Kubota dealer and New Holland dealer real close...

That's who I would buy from if in the market for something new...

If I had access to a Mahindra dealer that was close by I would certainly give them a look...

Parts should not be an issue with Mahindra...

My biggest concern would be dealer support and if they would stay with Mahindra or if Mahindra would stay with them...

If the Deere and Mahindra are priced that close together, I would go with Deere...

In the midwest, green paint brings a premium price. I've seen beat up Deere stuff sell for more than nice off-brand stuff. Kubota holds value too.
Resale doesn't matter until you need to sell and then compare 50% with one tractor compared with 85% of another.

Here in the South, it seems that Deere Green is still in the lead, with Kubota close behind in Resale. Some of the older equipment was indestructable..Buy the Best you can afford, Looking back is not much fun...More speeds = Better efforts.

Don't forget the bigger the tractor, the more it takes to tow between properties. My little 3510 w/loader and loaded tires is well over 5000 lbs. Add the bush hog plus the trailer weight and all of a sudden, we need a truck upgrade!

Truck and trailer. Our truck has no problem pulling the Kubota L3600, but it does remind me its back there if I get to moving too fast.

How's it a stupid comment? Don't get caught up in the "cult" of Deere....Don't buy a tractor to go with your shirt...I see folks wearing the John Deere garb who've never been on a tractor.

I thought it was called an opinion!!How would the person saying it, if everyone just called your comments stupied everytime you said something!!Just seems like people should respect others opinion and comments,just cause you dont agree doesnt make yours any better than the other persons.Not meant 4 u,just last post

Mahindra is a fine enough machine, well liked and reasonably well respected.

But there is no way on God's green earth that anything compares to a Deere in re-sale value. Not even close. Just sayin'. You cannot gain that kind of reputation and resultant re-sale value and customer loyalty without putting in a few decades in the marketplace. Just a reality.

Suspect you already knew that, but was posting to see if it was still true. Yup, still is.

For me it is all about value. I like the Mahindra 5035, and from what I hear it sounds like a solid tractor. But a friend whom I ran into at the dealer decided against Mahindra and went with Kubota after someone he knew lost 50% in value on a two year old model w/100 hours on it.

That spooked me hence the thread.

How fast was this tractor, that lost 50% of it's value, sold. How was it marketed? I ask because I can't sell anything without getting antsy for the sale to be over. My Dad, sold mattresses all his life and did very well because he believed in the product he was selling.

Have you got any rain in the last 10 days? We got lucky and had about 3 inches spread out over the last week and a half.

We sure havent had any rain,the keep saying it mite but nothing.I have already been feeding hay for a week and I dont see getting another cutting on the hay meadow(probaly have to turn cows in there).Wouldnt be the Orange tractor owners would it,lol!

Okay, The Deere has been King for a long time, Especially on re-sale and owner pride. No Matter what color your tractor is from 30 hp on up:laughing:.

I was close, close, close to buying a 5035 and ending up going with a Deere 4120.

Reason I went Deere was that 1. I was already a Deere owner and had a good realtionship with two local dealers, one 10 minutes away other 15 minutes from me the other way. 2. Mahindra dealer was responsive, but a much smaller operation that was an hour and a half away.

On the 5035 you are looking at it is not a real comparison to the Deere 5 series economy models mentioned in your first post but that has already been pointed out, it's closest match in Deere is a 4320.
The 5035 is heavier and probably heavier built, but feature and operator station setup they are very close matches. I would strongly consider you look at the power reverse option or the hydro option on the 5035. It's laid out very comfortably everywhere else on the operator station and you might as well make it as comfortable as you can to operate, especially with a loader on it.
The 5035 has some options standard that you need to be sure to order on the Deere, flex links on the 3 pt, rear worklight, rear remote SCV. The 2011 JD 4320 the 3rd SCV on the rear is an option.
Loaded out on JD's website a 4320 with loader and all the options comparable to an apples to apples with the 5035 with loader the JD lists at $35,000. So street price will bring it to probably $30,000 and a little change. So you are looking at probaby 3,500 or so more than the Mahindra to go green and get an apples to apples tractor. You can do the match from here and check tractorhouse etc. to see what used 4320's with loaders are asking priced and see if the initial higher costs pans out to the reduced resale on the Manindra.

At the end of the day, the difference isn't that much when you consider a lower intial investment versus a lower potential return down the road. Crawl around on the tractors before you buy, spend some time at the dealers and see who you would want to be working with and the future and who would be the easiest to work with (weekend hours, etc.) and the rest of it is just a leap of faith. Either tractor is a "Cadillac" when it comes to comfort and features. Dollar wise they aren't that far apart.

As to rain here in my part of the south we had 1/2 inch in two weeks, then 1 more inch. so it is dry here, but they are cutting and bailing hay. Asking $30.00 a round bale.

I was as well. In fact I fully intended to buy one Monday morning after having made another trip to my dealer in Chattanooga. Quite frankly he is a great guy, and they have quite an impressive operation.

I like my local Deere/Kubota dealer as well.

I do appreciate all of your feedback. Definitely will consider those options as I continue to search for my machine.
