Been looking over some M9540's the last few days and came across something that brings up a question. All these are cab tractors and when I moved the POT lever to engage it lit up, but I started hearing beep, beep, beep .... Moved it back to disengage, then slowly moved it to engage and heard the beeps again. My rpms were anywhere from a bit above idle to maybe 1200 rpms.

Looked at the manual and it says to engage at lower rpms, but does it need to be at idle or something else?

If I'm sitting on the seat - engage the PTO - no beeping. It will beep for 15-20 seconds when I rise out of the seat. It goes this way - rapid/slow engagement - idle or higher engine speeds. If I engage while standing along side the tractor - immediate beeping for 15-20 seconds.

You simply did not wait long enough. It will go silent after the 15-20 second period.

I'm sitting in the seat and the beeping continues. I did not give it 15 to 20, just moved it back off

Side note: 2 of the tractors I looked at had a PTO that would not disengage, when motor was running the PTO turned. One of the salesmen showed me the part in a pic that does the engagement. Said you always need to be at not much more then an idle when engaging the PTO or it can break the ring

Well bought me a 2013 M9540HDC24 today. Took a trailer with to load, and it was a tad to narrow to load. So have to go back Mon or Tue with my dump truck and 10 ton tag. Dang 400 mile round trip and no tractor to look at.

Not sure if I understand your comment, but as I posted previously, the PTO brake is weak in these tractors. Could be that the PTO brake no longer function in the tractors that you looked at. Can you stop rotation with a 2X4 when disengaged? If so, the PTO brake has already failed.

Is the "ring" that you speak of part of the PTO brake? If so, what the salesman said (or should have said) is that one should not DISengage the PTO above idle with any kind of overhauling load, such as a mower. You will not find such prohibition in the owner's manual but Kubota knows of the issue.

The PTO does stop, and on this one the beeping also stops. Looks like the one in Munfordville and the one I bought have had the seat replaced, so the seat switch is disconnected. Mine does stop beeping after a little time.

Bought mine from a father and son farm in Calvert City and he said everything worked. I didn't look it over very close because they looked straight up and talked about my word is my bond, yada yada. Well there are some issues, and when asked about "I thought you said everything worked"? He responded the dealer said it did. Didn't know I was taking the word of his dealer

They buy and resale Kubota's and look for the 70 to 9540's/ So if anyone happens to be looking at a tractor in Calvert City, look more closely
