LYNCH PINS?

these things are not any good, i keep losing them, and i lost
the main pin to my finish mower. did not have one, so i had to
make one. this one will not come out unless you use an allen
wrench. has anyone else had any problems with these pins?

I like snap rings better - you just have to watch your thumb when they snap shut.

Absolutely, they stink. I lost my RFM pin and 3 lynch pins so far. I went to the Tractor Store, picked up 8 extra assorted lynch pins and two 3PH pins. Thay are cheap enough, .10 per lynch pin and 1.99 for the 3PH pins. In the future I am going to continue to use the pins, but will be using small tie wraps to keep them from vibrating loose. On the wheel adjustments on my RFM I had a bolt in place of one of the lost lynch pins for two mows. I agree there has to be a better way.

The $.10 lynch pins are worth just that. But there are some lynch pins with a black ring ($.70-.85 apiece) that will stay on, just be careful when you open them or they will snap the heck out of your finger. Rear finish mowers are real bad about losing pins because you can drag them under shrubs and that is when the pins are pulled off.

I switched to stainless bolts and locking (nylon insert) hex nuts for the RFM. The height adjustment is something that almost never gets played with. I remember raising the deck one time for an experiment when the grass got WAY ahead of me. Still had a mess with the clippings...................chim

I'll look for the bettter pins next time I am at the store. I did see some that looked better, but I am new at this, so went with what I thought were straight replacements. Thanks for the info.

They made a locking lynch pin. You have to squeeze the sides to make it release. They work good. If your dealer has them, you could give them a try.
