I got one for free under warranty, bought 3 more online. They were $6 each plus $11 for shipping.
I am trying an experiment putting on a nice blob of JB Weld on a new bracket. They *always* break at the same spot - just above where the strap is doubled. Not real hopeful, but anything for science.
Then I am going to take one of the broken ones and rig it to use a rubber bungee strap over the top of the filter, retaining the lower part of the bracket. This will be my next spare, and I bet that will be a permanent fix.
My BX doesn't break much, but when it does it seems to pick the least opportune times. Was going to take the family for a hayride last night and scout the fireworks (this neighborhood goes completely insane). Fired it up and mounted trailer.
Plugged-in utility light and lighting fuse blew. Headed for the shop to get a fuse and heard the stupid air filter banging against the hood.
Parked it and walked.
