Kubota BX23 TLB
Hello all...This is my first posting...Used my new (to me) '05 BX23 backhoe yesterday to dig a 60' trench 3' deep to run a new electrical line...My Kubota worked so well it almost made me look like I knew what I was doing...Have removed 5 stumps since I purchased it two weeks ago and I'm very happy so far with what it'll do...Sold my old orange friend (B5100) and upgraded to this...If there's anything I'm not too thrilled about it's the electrical part of it...When I looked at/bought the tractor I tried the lights of course and everything worked fine...Trailered it home and when I drove it off the trailer I noticed the lights were on...Checking the light switch (which was off) I thought uh oh...Going to have to troubleshoot that part and see where the short is and clear it...Looking forward to reading more about the BX23 and others on this forum.

Probably moisture in the switches. Happens to a lot of them. I drilled a small hole in the bottom of mine, blew them out and put some wd40 in them and haven't had a problem since.
Welcom to TBN

Hi Bernie, thanks for the input...Wiggled wires around and pulled the plug connector to the back of the switches and the lights/blinkers still stay on...Going to have to "dig deeper"...

I had moisture and dirt in the actual switch bodies. They actually come apart somewhat. I removed them from the tractor and sprayed wd40 and used an air hose to blow out and haven't had the problem again.

Hi Eric, I've got the plug connector completely off the switch body and the lights are still on...Must be shorting out somewhere up the line...Thanks for the help.

Thats really strange, keep us informed.

The hot wire to the lights has to be shorting with another hot wire.
The headlights normally go off with the key. Do yours?

The lights do go out when the key is turned off...Thought I was done yesterday and had the BX put in the barn when my daughter comes in the house to tell me she sees water bubbling up and around one of my in ground freeze proof water faucets.....Ratttttttssssssss....Fired up the Kubota and went to work digging around it to find a tree root had decided the plastic 1" line going to it needed to let nature push it around and cracked it....Bought/installed a new in ground faucet and pipe later on in the day.

If he is really pulling the switch connector and they are still on, this is nearly impossible to accidentally happen. There is no relay, just the switch.

(otherwise I would bet $$ it's a wet switch)

Having had my state electrical license for over 33 years I would hope I could determine correctly if it's the connector for the light/blinker switches I'm removing...Mowed the field this evening and the headlights come on as soon as the key switch is on...Looking for a print so I can trace this out.

Normally, current HAS to go through the light switch inorder for current to pass on to the lights.
With your switch disconnected this definitely takes it out if the equation.
I'd be suspecting that someone has done alittle "jury rigging" somewhere along the line. Are there additional lights thats been wired in to the light circuit?
attached is a BX23 wireing diagram.
Good luck, I'm REAL curious as to whats causing this....

The flashers on mine came on when I washed the tractor and the switches and relays under the dash got wet.
I simply unplugged the wire from the switch for a couple of weeks then plugged it back on.
Has worked fine ever since.
I do try to prevent excess water from getting in there by not hosing the dash with hard sprays of water from the garden hose.

Having inspected state-licensed electrical work for the last 15 years, you have completely undermined any confidence we are even talking about the same tractor.

Just kidding :)

Ouch.....Fourth bracket. Tough to change/spendy? From what I'm reading on here I better pick up a six pack of those.
