Good evening from Maine,
My friend owns a long 550 tractor with a 1550 loader. His lift cylinders are leaking by and he wants to rebuild them, but can't find part information due to the tractors orphan status. Does anyone have any ideas about sourcing packing, other than taking the cylinders to a hydraulic shop?

Thanks,
Matt

Typically cylinder seals are not proprietary. People who build cylinders (and loaders) source them from what's commonly available. Having been through a few hundred cylinders I can't recall any that I couldn't find seals for. Some designs are more complicated than others to work on, granted. Hard iron parts are a different story, but seals and wipers are pretty much "off the shelf" items. If you can get them apart you can most always source seals. At least that's been my experience.
