It's time to replace the valve on my 30+ year old splitter. Is it just a matter of unscrewing hoses & other connections and attaching the new valve? Or will hydraulic fluid come squirting out under residual pressure? I presume it drains down after shutoff, but is that right?

You can cycle the pump a couple of times dry, just to drain it. Think of what happens on your FEL after you kill the machine engine and toggle the lever.............same thing here. Especially if you have the lines removed any pressure will be released...........God bless..........Dennis

I replaced the detent valve on mine last year, I unscrewed all the hoses and a litte came out but very little, but ya, no issue at all changing it out just keep the hoses upside right..

On another note, I was running a friends splitter and the nut on the top of the pump popped off under 3000PSI and I was covered along with my truck with HOT hyro fluid, not much fun there..
