THis maybe a better option
That would work but obviously you lose the auto cycle. Most people who want the autocycle and lift/four way cylinders end up using two rd25xx prince valves.

Here's mine

The pump supplies the lift/four way valve on the left first. And then the PB from that valve feeds the auto cycle. Each valve has a return to the tank.

And here's how I did the dump valve.

Very nice job on your log spliter. Very good photos it's defiantly an inspiration.

I put a log lift on home-made splitter and I think the cylinder has only about 8" stroke. I find myself feathering the valve while lifting a 2' round oak to slow it down some. I can't remember the rod size now but it's small. I'd have to go measure it to be sure at this point.

Finally got the log lift built. Used 2x2 1/8" thick for the frame. 3" bore cylinder 8" stroke

So I got it all together had a few leaks to fix but not too bad. The log lift has just the right speed 3/8 hose.

I'm not sure about the wedge I put a big piece of wet maple 2' diameter had to turn the pressure up to 3000psi and it popped right through.

My question is should I cut some of the top of the wedge out so it will start the the split on bottom first ?

No on the wedge mod. If anything, do the opposite so it splits top first. That way the piece don't ride up.
