paulB, you were not kidding about the ..way more. That was the longest thread in history! I did not notice that i had float before the valve incident, but since I was clueless about float, who knows. Will check out the valve caps and decide if I want to tackle the springs and balls, or live without float and wait for my next service call. Thanks for your help!

Thomas,
Turned out I accidently turned the hydraulic directional from front and rear hydraulics to rear only! Thanks for your help.

Hey guys, That little flap on the joystick is for when you take the loader off. It allows you to move only in two directions, this way you don't let the loader down to the floor or move it too fast when removing it. I still have it on my LA350 but never use it. (works too slow!) Hope this clears it up. Also you may want to wire the valve in place so as to not turn it off agian. I had to do mine this way as mine was machined out wrong from the factory. When I got the loader the dealer had the tractor for a week trying to figure out why the loader would not work. When they took the valve apart they found that the roll pin was in the wrong spot and was not opening the valve all the way. So they wired it in position and have not had a problem since.

Re: Von

I knew there must be a good reason they put that flapper there. Good idea about wiring the valve in place. Will do that now that the little stopper rod has broken off.

Thanks foe your respond also.
Take care and have fun.

Re: Von

Von, can you explain better for a dense old man? I don't understand your comment about the flapper. If I pull mine down over the joystick, you can still pull back on the joystick (raise the boom, if the loader is still attached), but you can't go any of the other 3 directions.

Re:loader flap

Bird, In my loader hand book it states that the flap only allows the joystick just enough movement to remove the loader slowly. Mine will allow it to move in roll back and up but not full travel of the joystick. I guess its so that the loader won't jump up out of the sockets too fast when removing it. I know there is a bit of a difference in the B2710 loader and the one on the B8200 so maybe yours only requires the joystick to move in the one way to remove. Hope this helps you to understand it a little better, it would be alot easer if I could show you.

Re:loader flap

Thanks, Von, I'm guessing mine's the same; just don't understand why I can't find any mention of it in my manual. I'll have to give it a try, but I didn't think you could move the stick enough to do anything, other than raise the bucket, with that flap in place.

Re:loader flap

I spoke too soon this morning, Von. I set the loader off this morning to do some garden cultivating and experimented with the joystick and that little flap, and when it's pulled down on the joystick, you cannot move the joystick in any direction but straight back. So, it must not be for the same purpose as yours.

I finally have something to contribute!!! LOL The hinged plate on the loader control according to my loader book is for when you are connecting and disconnecting the loader from the frame. It restricts the fluid flow so the hydraulics worl really slowly when lifting the loader out of the frame. If it's in the down position you won't be able to get into the float position.
