I have a JD 2320 and dont spend much time on the road, but when i have to be Id love to have brighter 'warning' lights. I dont really need the light bars etc others are installing.

On a recent post I saw a link to replacement LED bulbs (same socket type but just LED) but im a little confused.. The warning lights on my 2320 are flashing and can be used turn signals (which i very seldom use).

A seller on Ebay mentioned that you would need a 'resistor' if the bulbs were used as 'turn signals' otherwise they may flash quicker..

Would i need that resistor just to use the flashing warning lights?

thanks

the seller on ebay is yitamotor - as recommended by someone on here..

If it is a 12v LED bulb then it doesn't need a resistor.
LED's turn on quicker by design. They are not heating up a wire filimant like an incadescent bulb.

So what?

While on the subject - those darn florescent screw in "replacement" bulbs burn out just like the incadescent ones.
I don't see them having much longer a life.

you will need a resistor for the LED bulbs, unless you change out the flasher for an electronic LED compatible unit. regular flashers require the resistance of the bulb to slow the heating of the bi-metal strip inside the flasher, with the LED you have less resistance so the bi-metal heats faster causing the lights to flash faster

I thought that the LED bulb drew so little current that the bi-metal strip would not heat up so it would not flash. I believe the resister goes across the LED, not in series with it, so the current would go thru the resister and allow flasher to work.

Depends on the type of flasher used. Older ones that need the resistance of the bulb to function properly can be replaced with 'solid state' or electronic flashers that won't care if you use LEDs or std filiment bulbs. No resisters needed.

just as a note. I replaced my incandescent flasher lamps with LED's awhile back, and there not any brighter. Just take less energy. I wanst too impressed. The flasher units that are real bright rely on many led lamps..not just one

should have expanded the info a little more, it depends on the flasher, the OLD ones would flash no matter if it had bulbs connected or not, the new type flashers for vehicles are required by the government to inform the operator if they have a bulb failure by flashing at an increased rate, if you change out an old style bulb for an LED it will notice the reduced power draw and increase the flash rate ( some types will not flash at all)

Not how I underetood it... however... flasher replacement is easy... if a standard auto style flasher is used... pull out the old plug in the new. Some flash faster with less load (be it a burnt out bulb or lower wattage LED bulb) and some flash at the same rate regardless. I have had issues when trailer lights get added... SLOW flash... too much load...

i believe you can get some 'will fit bulbs that have a built in resistor base to work the same as a bulb.. down side is there is no power savings. etc.

i bought 2 of these V-LEDS PLATINUM AMBER 20 LED 7W BLINKER/TURN SIGNAL LIGHT BULBS 1156 2056

from a company called vleds.

AMBER 1156 21 LED BLINKER TURN SIGNAL 2056 | 1 PAIR - Amber LED - 1156 LED - Tail Brake Turn Signal - Bulb Type

and let me tell you one thing...there NO brighter than the original lights.

i put one in one side and left the original in the other. couldnt tell any difference

what a waste of $$$ . i felt like a fool

I was having trouble with the flasher bulbs on my Kubota burning out. VIBRATION No more filaments with LEDS.
I would say that they have paid for themselves now.

Why would you spend money on TURN SIGNALS for a damned old tractor????

Because its more than 'just' turn signals.. its for the increased safety/visibility while on the road..

i originally did it to TRY and increase visibility while plowing homeowner association roads. Found out that these lights were NO brighter than incandescent. Now i have a Whelen LED L31HAF light on bar mounted to roof of tractor. Now THAT is bright. running 1.jpg

I bought these on ebay a few years ago. just installed an go. Very bright no need for anything else to make them work, strobe back.JPG Removed the top one to install the strobe.

i agree 100%.. all my road tractors have flashers!

First, if you have an older tractor / car an LED turn bulb will more than likely cause problems. As stated correctly, an old style flasher uses heat from the current draw of the light bulb to bend a piece of metal in and out of contact (heating and cooling). Without a resistor, a plain LED bulb will not work, either flashing quickly or not at all. The resistor LED is no guarantee of fix. On newer vehicles the issue can still remain due to how the electronics are programmed. Many electronic flashers are "smart" looking for a burned out bulb. Due to the low pull of an LED the system will indicate broken bulb and again act hinky.

Finally, the problem with LED lights in an automotive application (or heck many applications) is design. On paper the led will produce much more lumens than an incandescent, but because of the bulb not being designed correctly for using the reflective inside of your flasher housing, the bulb will appear dimmer. IMO the best bulbs for this application are ones that are flat, with all LED's facing forward. As higher wattage LED's become more common, and the supporting circuits beefier, this issue of not enough lumens hitting the lense will change.

Finally, it should be noted that small tractors (excuse the offense here) but ones that run on a riding lawn mower engine (24HP Honda or Kohler for example) tend to burn out LED Bulbs due to the alternator design.
