I have a 2002 GMC 1/2 ton. The washer bottle is leaking. I took it apart yesterday and thought the hose was leaking, but in retrospect, I may have damaged it taking it apart. I put new hose on it, and still thought it might be leaking where the pump slides into the washer bottle. I put a little electrical tape around the needle on the pump to try and tighten up this seal. Its still leaking, either the pump itself, or where it slides into the washer bottle.

Anybody have any experience with this? If anybody doesn't have an easy fix, I'll probably order a new bottle and pump.

Order a new one. I had a girl friends who had a GM truck and it leaked. I tried everything, including the mighty putty crap from the hardware store you see on TV. My last Saturn also leaked so I just replaced it. Did not want to fight it for $30.

I wasn't sure what the price would be, I could see it being $30, or I could see it being $130.

my 2000 yukon leaked.. replaced the bottle and hoses a few years ago.. UGH.. I see it's leaking badly again.. it's a PITA to get to as well.. contemplating on what to do about it. I'm thinking this one is leaking at pump to bottle.

i don't recall it being a 'cheap' fix last time bottle was replaced... :( ( no more gm for me... )

Thats where mine is leaking also I think, at the pump to bottle connection.

The last GM washer bottle that I had that leaked was on a 1978 Cutlass Supreme. None since....Don't think this has anything to do with GM...Good grief.

I have to ask what is a Dodge man doing with anything GM? :)

I had the same issue. Either buy the rubber bushing at a GM dealer for $6 or get a whole new pump and rubber bushing at Napa for $12

I second buying the pump and seal. I have seen quite a few of those pumps with hairline cracks in the bottom of the housing. Replaced the seal only to have to go back in to replace the pump.

Thanks for the answers, the NAPA idea sounds like a good one.

Why do I have a GMC truck? I hang my head in shame:ashamed: Its actually not a bad truck and it was a good price when I bought it. I traded my 2007 Dodge Ram Hemi for a 2010 Dodge Challenger last year and bought the GMC as my beater.

and it's so east to get to.. NOT!

it's not hte 6-12$ part that's the problem.. it dismantling the darn engine compartment and wheel well without a lift or floor with a walkunder hole in it to do so... :(

Yeah, I already took it apart once to try and fix it. I thought is was just the leaky washer line, but I probably broke that taking it apart. If you take out the battery and the battery tray, its fairly easy to get at. You also have a couple of those stupid plastic push pins that I have grown to hate. I'd say by the time I took it apart, tried to find the leak, ran to the parts store and got rubber washer line, put it back together, I spent about 3 hours on it. Now I get to do it again.

The GM trucks aren't fun but at least it can be done. On some smaller cars I swear the procedure to replace the pump must include removing a fender. I guess the design must be a gift to the dealer. Gives them a chance to charge more labor.

i know of at least one car that involves taking the tire off to remove the battery out a wheel well after removing the owling.

my mom owns a caddy type vehicle ( some cross between a minivan and suv? ) that has the batter up by the windshield and it is an act of congress to remove.. have to take plenty of stuff off to get tot it.

bat died early this year on her in-warranty car.. dealership she bought it from warrantied the battery.. charged her labor to install / remove it. something like 150$ :(

hmm.. can't wait to get me another gm product .. :)

I will give GM credit though. You can buy just the part you need. Example the washer pump to bottle seal. Sure it's $6.00.
If it was a Ford, you buy the assembly. Bottle and pump, all in one.
God forbid it's German. Probably have to reprogram the computer to recognize the new part and allow it to run.

kinda like a GM radio.. ( im sure others too.. )

I know when i replaced the fuel filter assy/pump.. etc in my dodge ram it was an 'assembly' and an expensive one at that!

everybody has those issues..

Well I think I fixed it. I bought a new pump and seal at the parts store for $18. So far I don't think it leaking. My trailer brakes are another story.
