Probably take at least a 3/4 ton p/u to handle that motor!!!
Amazing the size of those pistons, etc. I can't imagine the fuel requirements, or is it just hooked straight to an oil well?

David, Being a transoceanic cargo ship, the fuel line from the oil well would be a significant engineering feat in itself!

I had a forward from someone else in my email saying that ship will cross the Pacific in about 4 days, carrying all kinds of wonderful lead based products from China to poison our kids.

I'm sure it wouldn't fit in a 3/4 ton truck. A smaller compact truck, however, might fit inside one of those pistons.

The efficiency they've achieved with this is incredible.

I thought the oil galleries in the piston head were pretty neat! It amazing what you have to think about at that scale. Imagine the machine tools needed to make it. Very interesting!!

I just might like to own and operate the equipment that requires a power source such as this.

It should make a couple of bucks each trip which would be very beneficial form my financial situation.

IE: Beats picking bottles!

the engine isnt what impresses me.

its the idea that there are machines at least TWICE its size that cast it, machine it, and move it.

I saw one of those History Channel specials about big things and this engine was featured. The crank case has DOORS! When the engine is off, of course, you can walk right in and inspect stuff. Apparently most new trans oceanic ships are using these big diesels now.
