I recently got a quote from my local dealer on a 3400 hst w/ a fel and R4 tires for $17400. I've been looking on the web for awhile and found some better deals, barlow equipment being one of them. The thing I'm worried about is buying a tractor from an out of town dealer and then getting hassled by my local dealer if I take the tractor in for servicing. Hopefully I wont need much service after the purchase, but you never know.

What do you guys think?

It looks to me your dealer is around $2K high. You may want to get a genuine competitive quote and approach the dealer with your situation. I want to buy local but need some price reduction! Be prepared to accept either answer. A dealer worth his salt will service your machine regardless where you bought it although the priority chain favors purchasing customers. Let us know how you make out. I have this identical machine and love it!

It could cost you more in the long run. I didn't think I would need to bring my L2800 in either  Have you talked to anyone in your area about this dealer? I would... dealer means more to me then price (at least now, since I know better). If he charges more and still stinks... buy where ever you want.

You should be able to buy that setup for $1000 less than what you were quoted. I would make your dealer a firm offer at that price, and see where it goes.

The dealer has a good reputation as far a service goes, but they also have a reputation for not budging on their prices. My dad recently bought a used JD lawn tractor from them and they wouldnt come $500 off the price. Also I tried to buy a used B model from them last summer and offered them $700 less than their asking price in cash, but they refused. The next closest dealer is over an hour away, but it might be worth giving them a visit.

Thanks

well if its a hour away and you can get it for $2k less thats worth the Drive!! Or even if its shipped in from another state your only going to pay $400.00 give or take for shipping its still a better deal.

The entire concept of a dealer using service as a tool to enforce non-competitive pricing is obnoxious. I would drive 4 hours to avoid a dealer like that.

Looking up the Kubota Whole goods price list for 07 (found on this site) the suggested list price for a L3400 HST w/loader and R4 tires should be $19,149.00 ($15,543.00 for tractorw/R4 tires + $3,606.00 for LA463 FEL).

Yet I see folks saying your dealer could be $2K too high when he quotes you $17,400.00 for the above.

What is it I'm not seeing here guys?

I just recently got another quote from a dealer about 50 miles from me. $16,550 :)

This past summer I bought a L3400HST with new loader. Machine had 28 hrs and full warranty. My local dealer is impossible to deal with. I drove 300 miles to a neighboring state and purchased for $14,000 out the door. No additional fees or sales tax. This was a great dealership I just wish they were closer. Here is a similar deal and there are plenty more out there if you look around. http://www.tractorhouse.com/listings/detail.aspx?OHID=5266731&guid=5F3E28ACF8FE41ADA421FC898D56F4EB
Take your time and look around. Good luck!

If it had 28 hrs on it he may have used a "demo" discount on it.
Might be hard for a dealer with a brand new one on the lot to sell it for that.

I am amazed at the pricing you are discussing. I live in Canada and the same tractor here is at least $8,000 more.

I too have been contemplating trying to buy from a dealer close to home, but money talks more than neighborly hospitability when you are contemplating a major brand like Kubota.

Good luck with your buy.

Jimmy, welcome to Canadian pricing :)

I talked to a Kubota dealer in December though who quoted me a price for a L3540 which sounded like they were adjusting prices downward to compete with the cross border shopping.

I've pondered getting a tractor with a Cab and so talked to them about trading in my L3400 for a cabbed L3540. The price on the L3540 was decent enough for me to move but what the offerred on my L3400 with only 82 hours was an insult. Didn't feel like trying to sell privately so I just figured I would hang on to it for a few more years and dream about a cab later on :)

Something else you should know Jimmy is that Kubota USA is not letting USA dealers sell to Canadians. While I'm sure it can be done, it is likely a hassle to find a dealer in the USA and a cousin in the USA for him to sell the tractor to.

My local dealer (Hammond, LA) quoted me $17,280.00 for the same set up you are looking at (L3400HST 4wd w/loader) and one up the road in MS quoted me $16,900.00.

If I can get one down to $16,550.00 I'd jump on it. :D

I paid $17,083 for the tractor with loader and AG tires a few months ago. Sounds about right.

Mine was $17,300 with loaded R4's delievered. I wanted a dealer nearby. He has also made me some very good deals on implements.

That's what I paid as well.

Just to be clear my L3400 hst with 28 hrs was considered used therefore the price break is what happens to most machines as they leave the lot. Here on the coast of SC a lot of folks buy new boats and they end up sitting in the yard 364 days a year. The price of a good used boat is thousands below retail! But I am the same guy who never (almost never!) buys a new vehicle.
A tractor with less then 100 hrs to me is still new unless a newbie severly abused it. A well know car salesman down here says at the end of every commercial that everyone drives a used car.

I was ready to jump on that deal untill I started looking at the L3240. Now I dont know what I'm going to do. Kubota just has too many to choose from.
