L3400 Grapple?

jw5875, Did you go with the WR Long electric over hydraulic or the diverter for the controls on the grapple?

Also on a side note? How did you plumb the BH? It looks like you have a second tank back there for it.

Electric over hydraulic valve that comes with the grapple kit. Back Hoe has PTO driven pump for self contained unit, no "Plumbing" into the tractor hydraulics.

A light duty grapple may weigh 400 to 450 give or take some. My 60" light duty is about 450 to 500 lbs. If you place a grapple on the 3400 and the LA463 you quickly reduce the amount of load you can lift. If possible look at going to the L4400 or Grand L to gain some tractor weight and lift capacity. I have a L4240 I use in the Blue Ridge mountains and it moves well in the trees and in the hills given normal caution.

450lb ! Thats a heck of a 'light' grapple. The light ATI grapple is only about 160 lb. The very heavy double claw grapple is around 500lb.

(Edit) Oops, re the weight, my apologies. I was looking at grapple attachments... not full grapples.

You have to be careful looking at Grapples the ones designed for Skid steers weigh in at 700-800Lb range. I just picked up a used grapple made by FFC. Thats just over 400.

The problem with the add on Bucket Grapple is you can't get as much functionality as a stand alone grapple if you're really trying to move logs/brush. I also found they were'nt that much cheaper compared to the Markham grapples that are running 900-1000 dollars.

Have the ATI single cylinder grapple on my GL3130 with LA723 Loader and it is a fairly good match and does not weigh much, if you horse it around some you may bend things but it would be more then sturdy enough for the L3400 loader. The double cylinder one may do better but weighs more.

Have the WR Long valve and works good and easy install.

Just brought home tonight a Bradco 72" brush grapple bucket with dual cylinders for more brush clearing, it has a slotted bottom so the dirt comes out easier. Went over after hooking it up and picked up three 8" by 20' logs with no problem.

Jw5875,

Im curious, WR Long makes two different light duty grapples. What made you chose this style over the other one (OBG 2) with the longer tines on the bottom? Im getting ready to order mine this week but unsure if Id be more happy with the OBG 2 or the RBG 2 (the one you have). My land is full of rocks, limbs and logs from timbering. I think Id perfer the OBG 2 as it would also allow me to lay items on the bottom tines and move around the property. Can you roll yours back and lay items on the tines? Like logs, bales of hay, chains, chain saw...ect.

Thank you!
