Measured the stock box. It's roughly 14" wide, 5" front-to-back, and about 3" high without the lid. There is only about 1" of clearance behind it, but up to 3" in front of it.

Think I'm just going to mount a 50 cal ammo can.

The only thing I would consider is whether the mounting strut can take the leverage of anything taller or heavier than the stock toolbox. It's fairly sturdy with the stock box, but it's still a pretty small piece of steel and will flex.

My Homer box makes it twist a bit. Much bigger or heavier would pose problems I bet.

I tried one of the plastic cans and the bottom isn't strong enough and it's a little too narrow.

I'm going to use a USGI .50 Cal can painted orange. Kubota Orange seems to be the same as Ariens Orange, which means it's the same as Chevy Engine Orange, which is $5 a can.
