Oil & Fuel Kerosene?

We pay very high electric rates.

I have solar, but still on grid. Make more power than we use and still pay. No net metering in the electric CO-OP as it is not a utility.
Also the utilities are stopping net metering.

We have a $30/month Meter fee, high delivery charges and high rates plus other fees such that you think it was a internet/cable/ phone/bank service?

Every few years they trim branches from electrical right of ways. Our poor trees are getting electrocuted!

Amazing. Our electric co-op doesn't offer net metering either to small guys. We are on Hydro for 5 months of the year and diesel generation for the rest of the year. We pay around .28 per KWH. Could certainly be worse.

Sad, but my phone, internet and wireless service costs more than my electric bill! They make you pay for a land line to be a member and have access to their internet and cell phone service (for an exorbitant fee). Yippie!

Life is good though, a good woman, a good dog and a new tractor...what could be better?

My phone, cable and internet is well over 200$/mo and my electric is about 60$.

Peacefulness and sanity trumps cost. I'd live here, even if cost twice as much.

Same here, but even considering we use 2-3X the amount of electricity of an average home being a farm, we are a net producer of electricity on a yearly basis, but our bill range from $40-$150/month

To go off grid, battery size cost would be huge, so until battery technology gets economical, we pay to have lights at night. Or burn kerosene lanterns. A lot of homes burned to the ground from kerosene.

Stop by an airport and get some JP5?

For some reason my mind flashed to this. :D

I've switched all my lighting to LEDs and my well pump to a Grundfos that uses very little juice. 3, 7 cuft chest freezers and a fridge are my highest power hogs. Cooking, Hot Water and Dryer are all propane... at about $25 a month.

Jet fuel has additives that kerosene doesn't have which are designed to prevent fuel gumming, static charges, corrosion and icing. Some of these additives are cyclohexane, 1,2,4 Trimethylbenzene, benzene, toluene, napthalene, ethyl benzene and diethylene glycol monomethyl ether. While you can't avoid breathing the exhaust of the heater, there's no reason to subject yourself to breathing the exhaust from jet fuel which contains additives that can harm you. Stick with plain jane kerosene.

Makes sense to me!

I have the same heater and use mine all the time to heat my basement in the winter, or upstairs when the power goes out. My furnace for the house runs half as much with heating the basement also. LOTS of people here run kero heaters in their house all the time without issues. Of course, I wouldn't recommend leaving home with it burning and leaving it unattended, just to be safe. If you keep it clean and maintain the wick it does not smell bad or smoke and give anyone headaches. Practically every gas station around here has a kero pump. It must depend on where you live, but it is very easy to find here and tons of people use them without issues as long as it is maintained properly.
