Oil & Fuel Kerosene?

LSD#1 is NOT Diesel fuel in the sense of LSD#2. It is Jet fuel, aside from the sulfur content; Jet A, JP4, JP8, Heater Oil, Kerosene they are all from the same side draw off the crude column, some have the sulfur removed some don't. But the smell will be the same with all of them unlike LSD#2 which has 2 other components mixed in along with the Jet fuel.

#1 winter diesel is #2 diesel with the wax removed. Kerosene is a much lighter fraction than #2 diesel.

However the facts are different, I've only been refining oil for 25 years now. Trust me #1 And #2 diesel are much more different than you have stated.

My experience with kero heaters and breezy shop buildings ended 30 years ago with a lot of negative memories, like a lot of coughing, smelly, headaches, and even sick. Maybe todays heaters burn cleaner, but I don't want to spend much time around one. If it was me, I would re-gift your free kero heater, and roll the propane barbecue grill into the pole barn for some finger and tool warming.

Going by what the lab guys said at the Petro Canada Refinery on South Down Road Mississauga . They just de-waxed #2 diesel . No wax, no low temperature gelling.

Lighting the heater outside and letting get up to temperature leaves the startup stink outside . Just never liked moving a burning heater .

I'd move it to the gravel pit and use it for target practice. Not worth the aggravation and the stink.

We keep a kerosene heater and 25 gallon of fuel stored in the Church shed to keep the place above freezing in emergencies. In case there is a power failure or if operating through the transfer switch with a small generator. The church heat is 15kw of baseboards in the basement and 20kw of forced air upstairs.

I keep a woodstove at the ready and also a 2,000 watt Honda inverter generator warm in the garage. I have a 3,000 watt inverter in the diesel snowplow that is always ready to go in the winter (will run most everything except the Toyo heaters, thus the inverter generator). Sine waves matter, on occasion.

The Power has never been out longer than 6 hours in the past 55 years BUT I'm Ready!

NH is so third world.

Worse cell service than Afghanistan. Power goes out like in Middle East war zone.

The Power has not been out longer than 6 hours in the past 55 days, (4-1/2 hours about 2 weeks ago.) Actually that is good for around here.

Then again ,I feel for all those without power in Puerto Rico.

mike69440, that sounds more like Podunkville than God's Country! I live on the road system but pretty much in the "Boonies". Power and Phone/Internet is very dependable, we just pay through the nose for it as we do for everything else. Never hurts to be prepared though. Not a Prepper but I like to stay warm and cosy and keep my tummy fed.

I am always shocked to see that city folk don't even keep food on hand for disasters and such. The last disaster I was in was the Great Alaska Earthquake in 1964. We are overdue for something...and I want to be ready.
