Just can't get a good basic truck, like the old days!

The county ordered new pickups… white with rubber mats, auto with A/C and black trim.

Then I saw one oddball with chrome and radio with carpet and upgrade wheels… it was for county Director of maintenance…

Can’t say if true or not but was told with large fleet orders getting one for the top dog a little more plush is not unusual…
It's not at all. One year, even though I wasnt a boss, I ended up with cloth seats, and a few options, because it was too late in the year to get the more base model. My current personal truck, a 2019, bought used in Oct 2019, was one of 8 white ram 1500, at the same dealer, lease turn in, from a large rental equipment rental company. Of the 8, 7 SLTs, and 1 Bighorn. All white, all 4wd, all 5.7L; but the Bighorn had proximity sensors, 120v outlet, better rear view camera, and a couple other things. I full intended to buy one of the base, but while there, I drove two of them, and said, let me try to Bighorn. Thats what I left with.

My current work truck, although the only option I think, is 4wd; im second company driver in it, and 1st guy had windows tinted, and tires upgraded.

I had to order the "heavy duty vinyl" on the front seat of the 2004 Super Duty because the extended cab came with "vinyl weave" on the front seat (only). Even though the vinyl weave fabric was supposed to be an upgrade, I thought it looked weird to have a different material on the front seat than was on the back seat (which was just vinyl).

Truck was ordered with exactly what I wanted, XL, V-10, 4.30:1 rear end, auto, air, cruise control, camper package, snowplow package (to make it sit level), am/fm cassette (to get the 4 speakers), FX4 (for skid plates). $27,000.

I'm not a pimp but I want a leather interior, power seats, power windows, power steering, power brakes, power door locks, power mirrors, air conditioning, automatic transmission and a little of the electronic
crap we're forced to accept today. I do like the cameras and heated seats. The rest of the crap is what I'm stuck with.
And therein lies the rub...one man's crap is another man's desired option. I'll go with power steering/brakes, maybe automatic, and (not on your list) a good stereo but the rest of your list is stuff I consider "crap I'm stuck with". 4WD is a must where I live.

I'm curious how that rides. Plow-package up here means w/o a plow and even with the sub-frame/mounts on, you are at risk of knocking-loose tooth filings driving around in the Summer.

I have come to like my alloy wheels. They don't fill up with ice and/or mud the way that steel wheels do. On occasion I've had to take the latter off, apply my heat gun and chop the ice and frozen mud out.

Those v8 diesels were junk but no v8 diesel in the American market last to a million miles like 6 cylinder diesels do. And I agree Ford messed up bad not setting a DT360 at 300hp and 600 torque and putting it in a pickup in place of a powerjoke disaster of the time.
Surprised CAT didn't work more with Ford before the "PowerStrokes". The Ford 7xxx and 8xxx used CAT 3208 and 3208T for decades. When I started volunteering at the local fire station in '99, 1st out and 2nd out at our station were still Ford 8 series with 3208T. They were very common in our district, as well as surrounding district.

They were slow; we could do 60mph on the highway. Pretty slow for Code-3 when people are passing you doing 70+mph

As my Dad would say, it "rides like a coal cart", but I expected that. Smooth roads/highway, I don't really notice it much, but sharp bumps like where the pavement is buckled, it goes airborne.

OK... same as here !

Can make for short-changing moments, if you simultaneously need to brake quickly on wet pavement !
