SIL bought a non running Husq. 254 that 'ran when parked' for $100 with a never used 20" bar and chain. It apparently sat for a couple years so figured the carb was gummed up. He couldn't start it so got me to have a gander, zero compression, nothing so figured the cylinder/piston would be scored to death, nope lot of regular engine oil was in the cylinder tho so some one was trying to up compression. I figured the piston would have an access hole in the top when I took it apart, nope, busted ring land. Dunno how you'd ever bust that unless it did a good backfire on the wrong stroke or bad casting maybe.
The cylinder doesn't have a scratch in it, looks like brand new so I don't think it was used much for a 41 year old saw. Piston, ring, two circlips and base gasket $50 which was a lot cheaper than I thought
